Astra 3400 under Windows XP |
|
OK! Has anyone actually gotten the scanning working under Windows XP? (the one button touch scanning) Scanning works under all programs, but I would like to use VistaScan. I know that the US site tries to make you buy the drivers, but I downloaded all the appropriate files from the UK site. First I installed 3.73 from the Disk, then 3.75 which is the Win2k drivers. The link test worked, but one button still didn't work. I upped the driver to 3.82 (Winxp) and then no software would run at all. I manually changed to the other driver that was packaged with 3.75 or 3.82 or whatever. Nothing seems to be working. It sucks because I have work to do. Anyone experience the same problems? Thanks in advance!

I never got mine to work with any software other than microsoft paint when I had windows xp. xp crashed my computer, so i'm back to windows me
I tried downloading updated drivers, but there were none available for xp, so unless recent updates have been released, i don't think you can use vistascan.

give up on the 3400 and don't buy their stupid $32 cd. Junk it and make Umax the last scanner you ever own. The 3400 was my 2nd Umax product but since the company got so tight I bought a Visioneer at Office Depot for $79.00 with twice the features and none of the problems. Very high resolution. If Umax won't support you why should you support them?

While trying to get the scanner to work under Windows XP is, at best, a frustrating experience, it can be done.
Go to Start -- Programs -- Vista Scan -- Vista Scan Right click on the icon and select Properties Click on the Compatability Tag Select Windows 98/ME This should enable you to use the scanner and copier functions but will not activiate the power buttons. I found the folks at UMAX to be cooperative but they couldn't get the darned program to work under XP.

I've tried getting a buddy's 3450 to work under XP and it just ain't happening. I downloaded a utility update from Umax that you're supposed to install over their software and it doesn't do a bloody thing. I also change the compatability mode as the pervious poster suggested. Results: no joy.
The crap works just fine on one of my 98 machines. I'm going to recommend to my friend that he relegate this to the nearest garbage can and buy a scanner from another manufacturer.

In case anyone is interested I got this bloody thing to work. There is a technote at http://www.umax.com/support/knowledge/search.jsp?docs=SC00305&SRCHkeywords=scanner
You have to choose USB driver as the driver when going through the fix and you need to go to VistaScan and VistaShuttle and under Properties select 98/Me combatablity. The down side is this will take the scanner off the Scanners and Camera List under My Computer. But you will at least be able to use Umax's crappy Software. I have a MFP so I will set the 3400 to use the software and scanner with my Brother MFP otherwise.

John Rene had it perfect. Follow that link. Worked like a charm for me.
