Are there any helicopters in this game? If so, where the heck are they?

No I'm afraid there are no helicopters in GTA3, only in Vice City. There are helicopters at the airport in Shorside Vale and the police use one to but you can't use either of them. You can find the Dodo in the airport which is a small plane that you can fly. But that's as close as your going to get.

The Dodo? Isn't that a vehicle on the import/export garage list? How dose one get it in? Does it have wheels or pontoons? I know, I know...I ask lots of questions, but hey, that's how you learn stuff.

You can get a Dodo at Francis International Airport any time. It is by the group of Helicopters near the intersection point of both runways, just in front of the helipad with the cop car behind it.

You can also get a Dodo AFTER the mission Grand Theft Aero, in the same hangar you snipe the Columbians in during that mission. BOTH places are within the Airport though.

Once you fill up the Portland Import/Export garage you will be able to get a DODO from that very garage (along with every other vehicle you were required to fetch) in the form of GTA III pickup icons.

because you can choose from a list of 16 cars by walking into the corresponding GTA III pickup icon. Plus you can get the Dodo on Portland, which is cool. AND right around the corner by filling up the EV Crane you can also do the same thing for EVERY Emergency Vehicle! So.....picture this:

You have a six star wanted level. You have been forced from the last car you jacked as its overturned husk explodes uselessly in your face and you barely crawl from the ill fated vehicle in time to survive the deadly collision. Desperately you look around the streets of Atlantic Quays and Trenton, but alas, there are no other cars anywhere in sight, at least none you can get to through the thick, ever increasing wall of FBI, ARMY, SWAT and Liberty City's finest. Helicopters continue their barrage of air to ground fire as they order you to surrender. You fire off a rocket Launcher round just in time to evade its deadly guns as the chopper falls to the ground in a spiraling heap. A momentary reprieve at best since still the onslaught continues unabated. You are running from the law, sweating, heart pounding like a Bass drum in your chest. You are surrounded. About to get busted, your armor is but a distant memory and you are down to twenty five health! By some miracle you manage to get into the docks, hoping against hope for a break...anything!! You have your back to the wall. Its looking bad for you isn't it?

Until....you run desperately into a powerup by the crane...you choose the vehicle you want and out it comes. Ah but not just any vehicle my friend...no no no no!

As you are about to get Busted, Wasted or worse, you can see the faint glimmer of hope, a plan begins to take shape and from the crane perched above your position falls THE RHINO! Yes that's right friends and neighbors! With a paltry 10 health you get into the Rhino and start firing the mighty turret at all in your way, blasting a path through the helpless law enforcement that, only a moment ago, had you in their clutches, beaten!

Ah but you have turned defeat into victory now haven't you? You have turned the tables and now are barreling down the streets of Saint Mark empowered, YES you heard me right! You are mighty! No longer do you have a meager 10 health. For after dispatching all who vainly attempted to thwart your criminal efforts, you availed yourself NOT ONLY of full health but armor as well.

You are a credit to Liberty City my son. You have made us all proud for today, at that very moment YOU and only you have snatched victory from the very bowels of defeat! You are Fido! You are Liberty City! Murderer of petty snitches and Mob Bosses alike, you shot the bitch who ruined your relationship with the Italians and you are a FORCE to be reckoned with.

Rejoice! For today Liberty City is YOURS and yours alone.
