Info for Roll-O-Rama

Roll-o-Rama is, for lack of a better word, the shiznit. Da' bomb. Yo' mama. Sleeper-hit is too clichéd a term to even bother uttering in the same sentence as this uniquely Nintendo-centric title. Though you may not know it, Roll-o-Rama has in fact been around for the better part of a year, in one form or another. You may know it as Kirby Tilt 'N' Tumble 2, the title that first debuted back at Space World all those moons ago. It may have been stripped of its lovable mascot, but the gameplay hasn't suffered in the least.

Perhaps the biggest problem with the game is the fact that it ranks right up there with Dance Dance Revolution as one of the most embarrassing games to play in public. Gesticulating with GBA in hand is a surreal experience, as you bob, weave and tilt, frantically trying to maneuver your orb of choice around the obstacle-laden courses. The handful of stages available in the demo required players to perform a number of varying tasks, one of which saw you dragging a group of differently shaped and colored objects towards the stage goal. Any objects you finish the stage with are added to your collection. Speaking of which, a Pokemon-esque element has been added to the title, allowing players to collect more than 100 different objects, ranging from GameCubes to N64 logos to elegantly patterned orbs. Once acquired, these become playable. Each features unique attributes that affect its overall movement and handling capabilities.

Weaving in between the numerous obstacles littered around each stage is an absolute blast, and I can't wait to see what later stages hold in store. If the ball falls off the board, it falls down onto the GBA below, where you're given an opportunity to catch it and launch it back onto the game board above. By completing certain objectives within a stage it's even possible to participate in a mini-game on the GBA. Nice. Nothing about the actual gameplay is exceptionally intriguing, however, the simple fact that you're manipulating the game by motioning with the Game Boy Advance makes it that much more enjoyable.

Roll-o-Rama may not have received the sort of media coverage that Nintendo's "Game Giants" have, but don't assume that, that's any indication of the title's quality. Keep an eye on this one.
