Early Money Bags investments:

When I first start the game I ignore all of the big locked chests and save my gems for the extra health point upgrade and then the Horn Dive upgrade. They both come in handy real quick.

Later investments:

Some extra fire ball shots for Cloudy Domain. A bunch of extra shots for the secondary Ice Breath weapon especially for the area with all of the fire based enemies.

Tips:

It is not neccessary for one to guide Spyro through his pole spin jumps. All that is needed is to be facing the right direction and to time your jump correctly if needed.

When one finds those little pads that rattle when one jumps on them and they break if one stays on them for too long, make sure one lands on them squarely. If one lands on the outer edges of them Spyro will sometimes fall straight through them.

Don't waste your gems on water bombs.

Strategy:

If one is gliding toward an armoured enemy, one can glide over the enemy, and one has the upgraded Horn Dive ability, fly over the enemy and use the Horn Dive and one will come smashing down and strip away the enemy's armour. The enemy will be stunned and one can then use a breath attack to finish off the enemy. This minimizes the chance of the enemy attacking one while one is still gliding through the air.
