Vergil, Nero, and Dante are all so even. But Vergil wins all the "cutscene" fights. Whereas the only time Dante beats Vergil is when YOU do it. And all of us have lost to him at least once on Mission 20 for whatever reason.
Therefore, I think Vergil would win. ------------------- ![]()

Vergil, but only in his alter ego of the Black Angel.
He was much much more impressive using that black armour and massive black broadsword. I love using him in the Bloody Palace for that very reason. His evil form has a slightly different version of the armour and sword in devil trigger... -------------------

That's because his alternate costume DT turns him into Nelo Angelo, the armor he wears in the first game.
Actually, Nero doesn't really stand a chance. Dante toys with Nero in all their fights, and multiple comments are made throughout the game of Dante being on "another level" than Nero. Not to mention Vergil was more or less proven to be the better swordsman out of Dante and himself. Being twins, Dante and Vergil have the EXACT same potential power so they have the potential to be equal but never to ultimately surpass the other. ------------------- ![]()

It's not EXACTLY the same as Nelo Angelo from the first game though. The armour looks different somehow.
And I DID say his alternate form of the Black Angel. That's what Nelo Angelo is meant to mean. -------------------

Regardless, the point I made about Dante and Vergil having potential to be nothing but even makes sense. Although at times they may surpass each other. Their is no logical reason as to how identical twins could have different maximum potential.

Genetics is not everything. They've grown up under different conditions. Not to mention they might each be affected by what daemon weapons they carry around. I wouldn't be suprised if the Yamato gave Vergil stronger abilities compared to Dante, since Dante didn't have a proper weapon until DMC1. (The Force Edge, even though it sucked ass)

quote DGDante had Rebellion before Force Edge if you're following it by the actual timeline, and Rebellion's power was unlocked (as well as Dante's demonic powers) when Vergil impaled him with it. So even if Yamato grants Vergil stronger abilities, the Rebellion does the same for Dante. The Force Edge did blow in DMC1 when you compare it to the weapons Dante wields in the later installments, which is to be expected (they have to make some improvements as the series goes on), if you take a look at DMC4, Dante wields the Yamato very poorly for all his experience as a devil hunter. Vergil on the other hand, executed his moves masterfully, even his newly acquired ones such as Beowulf. Vergil > Dante > Nero My 2 cents. -------------------

I can definately agree that I expected more from Dante's version of the "Dark Slayer" style. He had very few moves, and combo attacks.
I would say that Dante and Vergil are evenly matched, with if anything, Vergil being better overall. Nero is on a tier below them, but still an extraoridinary fighter. ------------------- ![]()

The Rebellion? The Rebellion sucks.
The Yamato contained half of the sealed power of Sparda himself. The Rebellion... well, didn't. The other half was contained inside the Force Edge, right? I really didn't like Vergil much though... He was too showy and had a lame attitude. I by far preferred him as the Black Angel with the giant broadsword of doom. -------------------

The Yamato was not "half" of the sealed power of Sparda, it was the key to the demon world. It was a memento from Sparda to his son's just as Rebellion was to Dante.

Evidently my DMC lore is rusty. I've not played it in a while now.
Wait. So if the Rebellion was Sparda's gift to Dante... Ah, the Force Edge was inside the demon world and contained ALL of his power? But wait, then why does Sparda in DMC1's legendary dark knight mode use the Yamato as his main weapon? In fact, it's more of a hybrid between yamato and the awakened form of force edge, since it had both the electricity powers and the extending transforming blade. That's what made me think both weapons combined made the true weapon of Sparda. -------------------

The reason he uses Yamato is because it's supposed to be Sparda in human form (pretty sure that's the case anyway), it doesn't make much sense when you look at it in contrast to the story, it's just there for looks. It's the same as Alastor in pretty much every way other than how it looks.
The name of the Dante's trademark handguns changes as well, can't remember what they're called when playing as the Legendary Dark Knight though, it's been a while since I played DMC1. -------------------
