S Ranking Mission 19 DMD |
|
Is impossible surely? I've still only been able to B rank the damn mission, I can't even get it to an A rank let alone get it to an S rank which is my ultimate goal, S ranking all missions. The problem is not the first part of the mission, or even the first half of the Arkham fight. The problem is the second half of the Arkham fight. I just take ridiculous amounts of damage because there's no Devil Trigger. How in the *bleep* fo you avoid the red missiles that he fires at you? I kid you not, at one point he fired 5 at once and that's damn impossible to avoid all of them.
Before anyone says it, yeah I do have a second person controlling Vergil during this part of the fight and he knows what he's doing, the problem is solely in avoiding the red missiles, does anyone have a sure-fire technique for avoiding 3+ of them? When Arkham turns yellow and fires 2 of them I can avoid it, but I can't really avoid 3 let alone the ridiculous 5 he fired at me. This is the only mission I have left on B rank and it's pissing me off and I've narrowed down the problem to avoiding the red missiles he fires at you. My best damage for this mission something like 50'000 and that's what's stopping me from getting the A and ultimately S rank on this mission.

I've not made a study of this fight, but off the top of my head, I'd consider seeing if the missiles are destructible, if so you might be able to shoot at least some of them down and dodge the rest. Failing this, how often does this usually take place in a fight? If its not too many times before you kill him, perhaps you could resort to using a Holy Water, as it makes you invincible during the activation animation, if I remember right. Err, standing back and letting Vergil do the work might give you more room to dodge, but that relies on you reading a telegraph for the attack or being able to predict it.
That's all I've got for now, good luck though buddy -------------------

I'm reluctant to use Holy Waters at all during this fight. To S rank this mission I need to get either 3 S and 2 A or 4 S and a B. The time I can S rank, that's no problem, because of Royal Guard I can get my style points and orbs at an S. But the damage is the big thing and I'm not confident at keeping that at the A rank (which I don't know the limit of) so I don't want to use any Items during this mission if I can help it as I think one item will instantly drop me down to an A rank for that and 3 S, an A and a B will only get me an A rank overall.
As far as I can tell, he uses the missiles when you are far away. The problem is that when he hits you, you get knocked away. Then he fires missiles, which keeps you away when you invariably get hit, and that process repeats until you fluke a dodge or Vergil damage him enough to retreat. I've not tried destroying the missiles, but I've not accidentally ever locked onto them. I mean, FFS, I just SS ranked this mission on Hard earlier, yet I can only B rank it on DMD mode. Bullshit. As I said, the only issue with this mission is Arkham part 2, I don't need any advice on any other part of the mission, not even the wolves, purely the Dante/Vergil v Arkham part of the mission.

LOL, wolves? You mean his minions? I've heard them called dolphins, squid, and now wolves, and probably some other things I can't think of.
As for this general problem, well, its not exactly original, but you could try ending part one of the fight with the biggest bang possible, like a DT Explosion full Just Release, hopefully it could shorten part 2, any chance of that working -------------------

I doubt that works. When playing Heaven or Hell mode, when you hit him once he loses all his life, but still comes back for Part 2 of the fight with a half health bar, similar thing with Geryon on the bridge when you fall to the arena, so unfortunately that strategy is unlikely to work.
And the issue isn't causing damage, it's avoiding taking damage, namely the red missiles.

you could just use Super Dante Quicksilver - this baby has become my best friend in getting me SS ranks in all modes (exc easy).
Otherwise you need to buff up your RG timing. I honestly can't see how anyone can SS rank this mission either - for me the main problem is getting past the enemies that constantly renew themselves when the hourglass has expired

I just told you that I'm having trouble with the second part of the fight, where you cannot use Devil Trigger. Having played through the game yourself you should also remember that the styles do not work there either.

he makes a moaning sound before throwing the missiles. hear it, and then back yourself off and start jumping around like a kangaroo till theyre out of sight, then get back to pounding his ass.

That's not really a specific piece of advice because I've been jumping around trying to avoid them, but that simply doesn't work when there's 3 or more of them flying at you. I try using Helm Hammer close up so that a couple of them fly way away from where I am but I usually end up getting hit by one.

Ž · This major problem has been a big problem for everyone. But I managed to SS this mission so I'll tell you what I did...
When you see those Red Tentacles shooting at you (or you call it the Red Missile?) DO NOT go far. Instead, go at a medium distance between Arkham and the end of the room. Being far would give ample time for the tentacles to switch it's route to get to you. To avoid it at the distance I'm telling you, use a Jump when the first one is near (preferably jump to the left), then when the second one is near, air hike to the opposite direction of your previous jump, then side roll to be sure you don't get hit by the third one. Arkham may do this 2 consecutive times, so that's why I said jumping in one direction and air hiking in the opposite direction works, since it maintains the camera position and you can repeat the process once again. When he finally stops, yeah, go for it. Preferably the most useful move for defeating Arkham is Beowulf's Rising Dragon, full charge, and also A&R's Jet Stream level 3. Oh, and don't forget, NEVER USE COMBOS THAT TAKE LONG TO CANCEL. Preferably the most combos that I use for damaging Arkham is A&R Combo 2, Nevan's Reverb Shock, Rebellion Combo 1. Rebellion's Drive move may help in certain times, but be sure you know those 'certain times'. That's all I can say, as it was exactly what I did to get 0 damage for Mission 19. ------------------- ![]() Banner Credit: jets15 D/P FC: 3265 5480 9641 PMD2 FC: 4296 3864 7504

i find it hard to believe anyone can SS rank this mission. can you give us proof that you actually scored top rank in this mission without super dante?
how did you get past the hourglass stage of the level? i find it impossible to get past this because the horuglass constantly renews itself and more opponents keep coming. it takes time to beat them as well since its dmd

Ž · It saves you a lot of time if you have a fully charged Release going in the hourglass room, and since those Abysses teleport much, try making them line up so that when you Just Release you can hit all of them, and use full DT explosion as well. Use Cerberus and Beowulf for this one, probably the repeated Killer Bee+Enemy Jump really helps, since that's what I did...

(Someone please merge this post with my above one after someone replies to the thread...)
Ž · I have run through Mission 19 again, and I myself made a Mission 19 runthrough strategy, which could at least get you an S (since the Abysses have VERY TRICKY timings...). The Arkham strategy I told you WORKS, as I have tested. You don't just press X always. When you jump, wait for 1/3 of a second before Air Hiking. 1st ROom: OK, appear in the Room of the Fallens, and there are... 3 Abysses, in front of your face. They will do either of these 2: Use a Melee attack, or use a teleport attack. If all of them does a Melee attack, get their stupidity and block them until you get an SSStylish rank and a full Release. If all of them does a Teleport, simply block the attack. If it's a mixture, block the melee attacker 2 times, then block the teleport attack. OK, on to the killing part. Remember to severely damage ALL of the Abysses so that when one of them already DTs, their lifebar is already low and saves you a LOT of time (when I mean a lot, it may save you more than 1 minute, come on). Use 1 explosion for the first 3 Abysses. When only one is remaining, it will DT. Play with it a bit and 2 more Abysses will appear. Concentrate on one of them, then concentrate on the other one who is non-DTed. Use a Devil Explosion here if you want. Then kill the DTed Abyss. Remember, Abysses have tricky timings, so don't get frustrated when you can't block them... 2nd Room: Into the Nirvana of Illusions... We will take advantage of 2 facts here: a. Lock-on glitch: Do you remember the times where in you do a Stinger, a Straight, a Jet Stream, a Reverb Shock, a Revolver, etc. (anything that has a forward on the left-analog stick), but you somewhat aren't going the way that the enemy you're locking is? We'll apply that here. The R1 and the circle button must almost go simoltaneous for this glitch to work. Probably the easiest way to do this is w/o holding R1, run at the direction of the intended target, then use almost simoltaneously press R1+Circle. b. Mirror spawn fact - New Abysses will NOT be there unless there are 0 Abysses there. So if you kill the mirror while the 4th one is just coming out, you'll actually be only 1 on 1 with it... OK, so when you enter, DON'T press start on the cutscene. Instead, look for the mirror with color IMMEADIETLY. Once you found it, and you gain control, wait until you hear 3 moans, then use a Release on the Mirror. That will make breaking the 2nd mirror no trouble. For this time, earn some blocks to get a Full Release, then destroy the mirror. With 2 mirrors out, the other 4 Abysses that will come out will INSTANTLY BE KILLED. On to the next room! 3rd room: The Hourglass thing... No problem. Be sure to distribute the damage before killing them. But to be exact, I'll tell you what I do. I hold the L1 button immeadietly, and quite block them a bit, or maybe even attack them. When ready, use a full DT explosion that should hit EVERYONE. Then when they're lying down, use your Release on one of the Abysses, which should kill it. Use 7-9 Killer Bees on another Abyss, (oh BTW there's another one, so keep targeting the old one for a while) then kill the other one. The one you Killer Beed should DT. Kill the non-DTed one, use a DT explosion if you need. Then later if you feel you are running out of time, start using the Killer Bee+Enemy Jump trick while on DT, and it goes the same for both of those Abysses. That should get you the Samsara with a large amount of Sand remaining (I done it once that still 1/3 of the sand is remaining). On to the next room! 4th Room: Lost Souls Nirvana? Just get the 2 green orbs near you. 5th room: Room of the Fallens, just get back to the Illusions. 6th Room: Nirvana of Illusions, use the Samsara to get to the next room. 7th Room: End of the Line. With that Statue, change your weapons to E&I, Kalina Ann, A&R, Beowulf. Change your style to Trickster too, you're gonna need it. Proceed on to the next room. 8th Room: Forbidden Nirvana. That big blob will grow out of the ceiling. BOSS: Arkham Now this is NOT an easy boss, so don't take it lightly. As usual, charge up your DT explosion. He's helpless when he uses his Melee attacks, so damage him for a while. Then when he shakes, it's a high percentage sign that he will bring out his tentacles. Sky Star to get out of range of his Blind attack, then when the shooting Tentacle is fired, use an Air Trick. When he turns purple to hide on the ground, use your DT explosion, full or not. For the fishes, simply shoot Kalina Ann, then Sky Star your way out there, repeatedly, until Arkham comes back out. Remember, kill the fishes first before approaching Arkham, even if he's there already. After you take out half of his life, Vergil will come to the scene. Proceed to the second part... This time, your DT is disabled. Not only that, your style is disabled as well, which you should take note of. 75% of the time will he use the firing missiles at you, which should come in 3s or 4s. Do the trick I said to you, Jump to the left, Air Hike to the right (with timing, of course), side roll to the left. Whenever he uses his Melee attacks (not the blind melee attacks, as that still has his tentacles out), that's the only time you can attack him, and it's almost seldom. He still uses the fishes by the way. For that part, shoot Kalina Ann, and Air Hike your way out there and let Vergil use his Rapid Slash attack to help you eliminate some of the fishes. When you're bored, both Dante and Vergil can taunt Arkham when he's coming out of the ceiling after the fishes. Repeat the fight process and you should come out of this mission crazy and a little unharmed. That's exactly what I did. Tell me if something doesn't work. ------------------- ![]() Banner Credit: jets15 D/P FC: 3265 5480 9641 PMD2 FC: 4296 3864 7504

couldnt you make your buddy Vergil jump into the missles, and take the hit for you?...

· Don't you think I didn't think of that? It's just too hard to do so, since one tentacle will make Vergil fly away, opening Dante to the other tentacles...
