i just got KotOR 2 yesterday and i cant even start it - i click on the desktop/quick launch/start menu icon and then click on game in the mini-menu but then i get this windows box titled 'microsoft visual c++ runtime library' saying:

then i get an 'ok' button and the window and everything else to do with the game closes.

whats the deal? why wont it work? should i reinstall? ive starting downloading the update but i thought id post this to get some input incase that doesnt work.

I used to get an error associated with not having a computer strong enough to run the first one several years back, that could be your problem. When it comes to the second one, though, bugs are abound. Use the F4 button to save often. You should try and reinstall, and if that does not work ask for another copy from LucasArts.

its definately nothing to do with my pc not being powerful enough, i bought it only 6 months ago for £1100.

i downloaded the patch but near the end of the installation it came up with an error saying that it couldnt overwrite one of the files because the contents dont match. ill try resinstalling the whole thing and hope that works, otherwise ill have to take it back.

i fixed it. the patch was the wrong one, i had to download another before the one i already had. i had to update it twice before it would work. but its sorted anyway

Good to hear, hope you have a good time playing KotOR II, man. If I may ask, which patch was it? I need to update my own game up to the newest version, I still have smoke bugs.

well i have the uk version so i got the patches from this page on the lucasarts site.

i had to download the 1.0a patch and then 1.0b. the game was trying to just download the 1.0b patch without the other so thats why it wouldnt work.

i havent been playing it too long so far, about 2-3 hours, but im really liking it. its a really cool game and although the battle system isnt something that im usually into, i think playing FFXII has got me more used to the freeroam RPG battle system like this.

i wasnt getting an that error message like that, when i tried to install the patch it just said that one of the existing files was different to what it was supposed to install. weird.

I had the same problem but I also have another problem. When i try to update it connects and can't get or find any of the updates. Also when i go to the site and try to download it, the new webpage never comes up. I have no idea why this is happening some one plz help me.

u need to manualy do it cuz i had the same problem on the update button on the game

i tried to install it but this came up "Old file not found. However, a file of the same name was found. No update done since the file contents do not match." and it would not update. Why not?

When I attempt to download the 1 a patch, it says similarly to yoda coda's, "old name not found, blah blah, did not update" I could really use some help, I got this game like 3 weeks ago and have been trying different things here n there, I downloaded the update of the game once, and it was working here n there, but it constantly says "game has stopped working" n that like. Any input?

my game doesn't even run at all. and it won't download the file either
