Rules question - Building houses |
|
Ok, so I was playing Monopoly the other night with my new in-laws. I owned all three orange properties. (New York Ave, Tenn. Ave, St. James Pl). Each property had one house already, and I had just enough money to buy 5 more houses at 100 dollars each. I placed two on NY. Ave, two on Tenn, and one on St. James place. Here is where the disagreement came in: I said that the placement of the houses was legal, they ALL said that my placement was illegal per the "even build" rule. They said since two of the properties now had three houses each, that I MUST place a third house on the remaining property by coming up with another 100 bucks OR purchase only 3 houses instead of five, which would result in all three properties having a total of two houses each. In the interest of family unity I grumbled, but sold two houses back to the bank (at full value) and bought only three houses instead of five. I tried to explain that the "even build" rule was to prevent me from, lets say, putting three houses on one single property. Anyway, the official rules are not very explicit, and I feel that if the Monopoly community can either come to my rescue or set me straight, it will make for a much happier and unified game environment in the future.
