Why does the enemy ALWAYS play first? |
|
Or am I missing something here?

They don't. Some (very few) enemies may always get first strike, but other than that it's based on luck.

Then there is something very bad with my copy of the game.
And I am not very impressed with it. The problem is the same: 1. Enemy ALWAYS plays first. 2. Very often I am abmushed, and that is the only time when I get to play first. But it doesn't help much, because they usualy grind me to dust by the time I manage to tranform. and the most irritating part... 3. It's my turn to play. I have three action points. I use the first action point. next character The secound action point is spent THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN - my third action point is unused and the turn goes to the monsters. The story and the world of this game is amazing.... but the gameplay.....awfull, just awfull.

quote nakedfunkAs I said, it shouldn't be like that. Your game is screwed. quote nakedfunkIf your character misses when attacking, or the enemy absorbs or blocks an attack then you will lose a turn icon. ------------------- Twilight in a nutshell: The story of a young woman's choice to practice either bestiality or necrophilia.

Really, when I played it originally, and now that I'm replaying it again for the enjoyment
I've almost always gone first in battle. So, it must just be your game, trying increasing your luck and agility (with more of a focus on agility)

When I was in the first couple of dungeons, I figured nakedfunk was exaggerating quite a bit because I always got first strike. In the next 1 or 2 dungeons, enemy got first strike 95% of the time and I even consistently got ambushed in human form! So either those two dungeons just have a higher ambush rate or as I progressed in levels and gave points to agility, I got first strike more often.
Also, Nakedfunk, there's a mantra path that leads to a skill called First Strike. I hope you hang in there until you get it because I just got this game and it makes me wanna call in sick to work so I can stay home and play.

d**n straight, it is just that addictive, it is worth every penny put into it, up to $150 (although I only payed $30 for mine because I bought it when if first came out and was clearanced because nobody wanted it)... I did the same for Digital Devil Saga 2 also...

Yes, I think it was that particular dungeon. I managed to pass it but it was SO ANNOYING! I nearly smashed my PS2 against the wall.
I agree that the game has an addicting line, but you know what I don't like? Two hours of dungeon crawling, for a cutscene of 2 minutes. That's kinda not fair.

I paid about $40 for DDS1 after hesitating for one day and seeing it shoot up from $30. I just beat it yesterday and, as expected of the inevitable cliffhanging ending, I sucked it up and just ordered DDS2 for about $100. That is SUCH BS! Shoulda been one game... But whatever. I rationalize it by saying you can spend $20 for a movie thats worth 2-3 hours of entertainment. But a game is 40 hours on average and up to and beyond 100. Plus, I dont need to eat for a week, right??
I don't mind dungeon crawling when the battles are quick. During an RPG dry spell, I picked up Legaia Duel Saga and though kinda fun, battles take forever! Until DDS2 arrives, I'm going back to Nocturnes hard mode. Or maybe Devil Summoner 2. Or replaying DDS1, though I wish it had a hard mode...
