I completed the Hoenn Pokedex, finally. Now I'm wondering: Which Johto starter should I pick? Which one is best, and why? Help please.

Depends on your other pokemon, if you want to use it in your team. By Smogon standards Typhlosion and Feraligatr are BL and Meganuim is UU, so meaning Meganium is worse. In my oppinion Typhloion is the best, but that's just me

how do you get to choose Jhoto starters?

A choice for a Johto starter will occur when the player collects all the pokemon of the hoenn dex apart from Deoxys and Jirachi.

who do you get them from?

Professor Birch will give you them i believe, i don't know. I havent' recieved them from him.

When you complete the regional Pokedex (meaning all 200 Hoenn Pokemon caught) go to Professor Birch's place in Littleroot Town.

I think I might just pick Chikorita because I don't have very many good grass types. I guess it really does depend on what Pokemon you already have. Thanks for your opinions.

does the same thing happen if you complete the pokedex in R/S versions also?

no its only in emerald.

It depends on what you need for your team and what kind of trainer you are.

1). Thyplosion is more offensive minded and have little defense. It is basically like Sceptile/Alakazam to say. This is the one I prefer because I'm really offensive minded. It is one of the top in its role in a team.

2). Meganium is a defensive pokemon. You can use it as Archon said it but another good set is to have a toxic tank. This is a very strategic pokemon but the only problem is, is that it has many rivals in the world. There is basically a lot of other pokemons that have this same ability and that can do a better job and that is why this is second.

3). I hate Feraligatr. I mean who would want to have a Physical water type Pokemon that its physical isn't even that strong? I wouldn't pick this if I were you because there are more choices of other water pokemons that are way more useful than this one.

Thanks for your opinions. I ended up picking Chikorita. Now it's a level 48 Meganium. I also got the other two because it just so happens the kids next door to me have a Pokemon game and traded them to me. XD They're only about 10 and 7 years old I think.

It also had two Celebis and a Ho-oh. XD We really should start buying Pokemon games from Gamestop. .__.

So now I have all three of them as well, even though I have Sapphire. =D It sounds like from what you guys have said that Meganium or Feraligatr would fit best on my team.
