Difference with rmxp and rmvx?

Other than that rmvx being able to run on vista without any dll downloads, what is mainly the advantage for vista users, it also has a kinda nice layout.

But, I really see no difference, although I might prefer rmxp alot because I worked with it alot, which would be better to make a game with?

EDIT:
Just what is the main advantage of each program.

re: Difference with rmxp and rmvx?

RMXP has awesome graphic while RMVX is terrible one. But RMVX is easy to create a map while RMXP is quite hard. (Especially, to create an array of trees).

For newbies, I suggest you to choose RMVX, 'cause it's very user-friendly, and easy in making a map. You don't have to manage layers.

Get rpg maker xp, vx is just stupid you won't be able to make good stuff with it. Get xp or nothing at all, you can also download RPG maker 2003 for free. Even that is better than getting vx...cuz it sucks!

re: Difference with rmxp and rmvx?

RMXP > RMVX

RMVX is stupid. When we told Enterbrain there were some features that we liked from RM2k and RM2k3, they chose the wrong damn ones. I hate RMVX. I never thought the mapping was easier in it to be completely honest. If you want to change the floor tile of something that has stuff on top of it, you have to remap the higher stuff too.

Then there's the programming language. RGSS is far easier to learn than RGSS2 that RMVX uses. RGSS2 seems to have many pointlessly stupid methods of doing things, and people who learned RGSS basically have to learn a new language.

I could rant all day to be honest, but I think I made my point. RMXP is far better.

re: Difference with rmxp and rmvx?

Rubymatt, I have to disagree. The main and only things we wanted from 2k3 and 2k were the side-view battle system, one or two event commands, and vehicles. We got the vehicles, which is a good start.

Next, RGSS2 is much, much easier to code in, and it's similar enough to RGSS that any competent scripter would be able to pick it up quickly. Ask Trebor777 at RMXP.org. Ask Enterbrain!, ask anyone who can code quickly and code well in both languages. Ask them which is easier, they'll all say RGSS2. As a result, various good battle systems have already been constructed. A side-view one that you don't need to make battlers for... I'd say that's pretty good. It uses character sprites.

It's easier to sprite for RMVX because there aren't as many frames on the character, and they're quite a bit smaller.

The mapping is only bad if you look at it that way; it can resemble more old-school games if you can make good maps. You can't make a beautiful map in RMVX, but you can make them good enough so that your game is respectable.

I too could go on all day discussing the Pros of RMVX, but I don't have all day. I could point out Cons as well, but the Pros outweigh the Cons in this situation.

re: Difference with rmxp and rmvx?

RMVX is a different style. It's older, more reminiscent of the older days of gaming. Everything is smaller and square, and it's very adorable that way <3

RMXP is a different style. It seems more serious. The mapping can also have more variety.

re: Difference with rmxp and rmvx?

It seems each to their own when it comes to the two programs. It's ultimately what you're wanting to do with the game, what style you want etc that makes you choose between them. Both of the programs are good, but (in most cases) one would find one of the programs substantially better than the other. It's up to you, really, to decide which one is more suitable for you.
