i target a merchant and in console type: SetBarterGold 750000 and then it says: 'SetBarterGold' requires a reference.

what am i doing wrong?

i guess there is a max of 60k but i can't setbartergold to any value at all..

mebbe you need the brackets along with targeting the merchant

Oblivion uses doublequotes, not brackets. Dunno if this will work though, as I'm not familiar with the command.

But give it a try anyhow.

the reason I used the brackets is that's the way it is shown when you bother to look it up

dunno why some commands show brackets and some quotes when you don't use either

left click merchant, he is identified at the top of the screen by name and hexadecimal

game response Actor's base barter gold is 60000

exit console

hmmm not entirely accurate and accuracy is job 1
quotes appear to be optional

guess you just have to experiment a little
