re: BEST class, birthsign, and race.

... You kind of need to tell us what you want to be (like, type) first.

The game is not about being the BEST, it's about doing what you LIKE.

We can't choose for you, buddy. You'll have to make the choice.

re: BEST class, birthsign, and race.

you can play the game using a multitude of different characters with different abilities and different skills. the races and birthsigns enhance the type of character you want to play as: like a mage, or a warrior, or thief...they either enhance or give extra attributes that will assist the style of character that you want to play as.

re: BEST class, birthsign, and race.

IMHO, the easiest way to start would be a straightforward hack and slash character. Unfortunately, the premade combat classes are crap. There is just no reason to have blunt and blade and hand-to-hand. So you're going to have to make a custom class. Pick blunt or blade, it doesn't matter which, there are some nicer unique blades available, but blunt gives you a better chance of knocking your target down.

Armorer, Heavy Armor, and Block are also must-haves.

I'd also recommend Alchemy, because healing potions are really expensive when you're just starting out, so you need to make your own. Alchemy also lets to make potions and poisons that replace many good spells from Restoration, Alteration, Destruction, and even Illusion.

Pick the last 2 from: Restoration, Destruction, Mysticism, Sneak, and Marksman.

As to Race, Redguard, Nord, and Orc are your heavy combat classes. People say the Nord are inferior to the other two, but if you feel like being a Viking, go for it.

As to Starsign, The Thief is by far the best one because it gives you 30 attribute points, and 10 of those are on luck which is the hardest thing to increase. However the sign of The Warrior with 20 attribute points will give a heavy combat character more immediate help.

On the other hand, a Breton Sorceror born under The Mage would be your heavy magic-user archtype.

And your third major category is the Sneaker, typified by a Dark Elf or Wood Elf Assassin, again born under The Thief.

But within those major categories there is quite a bit of room for customization. There isn't really a "wrong" way to do it. My only warnings are that a few skills take a long time to level up: athletics, acrobatics, security, restoration, speechcraft, and mercantile. Unless you're going to use those all the time you shouldn't pick them as major skills.
