	Is there any way to get the boots from Jakben without taking the thieves guild quests? I tried already. He caught me when he came home I guess and then got busted by the gaurds. I would like to talk to him but his door is always locked and I have not seen him in the city, even at night.

	Probably a quest locked door somewhere in there. Hes wearing them so you would have to kill him to get em. 	It is a quest related item, so no, without cheating. <spoiler> You can un-equip them, but they are destroyed during the appropriate quest.
