There are mods that put in a version of what you are talking about, but that fit the time period. The idea about a gun is basically an enchanted arrow, and although the end effect looks cooler then being shot a well placed arrow can still cause serious damage and even kill the target. The Akatosh Dragon Mod allows for you to have essentially a very fast flying horse. So although it isn't a car, it's more like a moderately slow jet.

Well, the mythical creatures doesn't take that away. Look at Shadowrun. It is set in the present, but contains Elfs, Dwarves, and Trolls. ------------------- *bleep*

Well I guess I should've said a game like elder scrolls. I agree keep making fantasy ES games but I wish we could see such freedom in other types of games.

quote TyhonBut it's not about when, because it is in a different universe. When, for example was the first Varla stone discovered? It wasn't. Only in Oblivion. Oblivion has it's own history. So in that sense, gunpowder could have been invented before iron was found.

Or even the Wheel. This is not like a typical real midevil game or real life midevil. It has made up races that wouldn't be real and magic and stones like Varla and Welkynd. So no on the guns and new things. This is Elder Scrolls. ------------------- Can't reply to PM's.

quote ShaunomenonPlay S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It is a unique combo of futuristic action/shooter and RPG. Shooter because you go along collecting weapons and disposing of rival Stalker teams and crazed mutant things. RPG because it is free roaming and you have customization options for guns and armor. Problem solved. http://www.neoseeker.com/Games/Products/PC/stalker_oblivion This message was edited by Jacknife on Jul 27 2007. ------------------- *bleep*

Well my suggestion was that Oblivion would be better if it was the same as it is, exept that you had low accuracy antique pistols and maybe muskets (See first page).

This has to an extent already been done, by Bethesda for that matter; go play Fallout. But high-tech/futuristic things being seen in an actual Elder Scrolls game would completely blur out and dumb down the amazing lore and storyline spread around in the games. I would be depressed to even see old fashioned guns in a TES game. ------------------- ![]() Thanks to HomieLB for the banner.

re: Idea for a modern elder scrolls game. |
quote jackberginThere is a line between realistic history and magic! I mean you need magic in order to enchant, and to recharge you need enchantments magic is a fantasy sure, but it is added to realism, SO you can create your own character with 80% freedom but guns? Nah, people will use those programmed stuff to develop them to snipers and modern guns, since its like modding a sword! and what roman things would you like to say? nah its mediavel with some influence of the roman culture, but also ninja things. cause canons were invented before guns, you need fantasy sure, but you gotta have correct fantasy, like you can't have space ships in a roman culture game if you know what im saying ------------------- quote Forrest Gump

quote jackberginWith thoughts like that then I guess we best get prepared for the Flood and covenant or wait on Master Chief saving our hides? Also I will not PM you because it is a discussion, not an arguement and if you are not big on history then how can you give a counter to the discussion that is more or less suggesting to bend the history within the game to accept technology that was replaced with swords and magic? Fact is "fantasy RPGs" use weapons like swords, bow & arrows and uses the element of magic. 99% of RPG games are made upon that foundation like they are building blocks. The Elder Scrolls uses that. Now like in the 360 forum who are having the same discussion there are two categories people fall into A) Lore abiding gamers: These follow the lore and history of the game. Meaning when they play, they only know Elder Scrolls. Real Life doesn't exist and so can't influence their game...this of course splits into softcore gamers and hardcore gamers (difference being the softcore realise they have to live their real life at some point B) Non-Lore gamers: These see the game as well a game, something to do for a change, lore doesn't come into anything and so the mods that add things not related to the elder scrolls lore appeal to them....such as adding items from time era's, things from other games (such as master chief etc.) and so on Point is, unless Beth Soft rewrites Elder Scrolls lore, the only people going to go for this idea are the Non-Lore gamers...there are some out there and I believe the percantage is 50-50 for the two categories ------------------- ![]() ![]()

They could make a spin off in the form of a completely different game that takes in the Stalker style current age RPG FPS hybrid. But they would never destroy the integrity of their series by adding guns. I really doubt it. I mean I really, reeeeaaly doubt it. ------------------- *bleep*

Seriously, if Elder Scrolls has guns it would be like in the first Indiana Jones movie when the guy with the sword comes out and everybody is like, huh. Then he takes out his pistol and shoots him. Very Bad------------------- Can't reply to PM's.
