No information thread should go without this video clip being added to it:

» Beginning FMV of Final Fantasy VII: DoC

Please note that it has a LOT of spoilers (well the beginning 5-8 minutes of DoC to be exact) as well as that, I warn you that you may not be able to take hold of yourself, and you may want to fly over to japan so you can get and play this game.

Thats all for now... my flight to japan's in a few hours

re: FFVII: DoC Information thread

On the fateful day that the city of Midgar was destroyed, thousands of lost souls were trapped in the depths below..

Three years after the events of FINAL FANTASY VII, an unknown group of seemingly unstoppable soldiers appears, bringing a swift and bitter end to the peace enjoyed by the people of the world. The members of this enigmatic group are the ones who were trapped under the ruins of Midgar for three long years—the Deepground soldiers.

Vincent Valentine finds himself pursued by several elite members of the mysterious Deepground organization. An unrelenting chain of events leads Vincent to the truth behind his past—and forces him once again to be the key player in a battle for the planet itself and all those living on it.

Just what is the connection between Vincent's past and the recent attacks? When the world is engulfed in darkness, his gun will toll a dreadful dirge...

re: FFVII: DoC Information thread

Not yet. Sorry.

quote Krunal
Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus has been on the wishlist for many Final Fantasy Fans for a very long time, and with the Japanese fans being able to experiance it last Feb, those that had to wait will be delighted to hear that the Game will be updated for the US release.

Here's a quick list of the upgrades that will be taking place:

  1. The Speed at which Vincent runs is now 1.2 times faster.
  2. In the Japanese version, running whilst aiming lowered your speed... well no more.
  3. A "Double Jump" move has been added to Vincents list of moves.
  4. "Dive-roll Dodge" is now the Dive-roll Dodge and Dash
  5. Limit breaks will be much harder to come by, it will no longer be detracted from your magic bar, but you'll have to find single-use limit break items to invoke them.
  6. Easy mode was simply too easy, and so they've replaced it with an "unlockable" Extra Hard mode.
  7. Online mode has been removed completely.
  8. 40 Extra special missions will be available in extra hard mode, adapted from the previous multiplayer content that was removed.

More news on DoC: LE! -

quote dirgeofcerberus.net
IGN has added a short Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode Preview, giving such things as a short review on the Third Person, and First Peroon gameplay. Also there is told to be a Verizon version of the game, which will have an extra feature of multiplayer mode.

quote IGN.com
July 24, 2006 - In addition to the this year's Final Fantasy VII onslaught, Square Enix is making a big push into the wireless space, and what we've seen so far is looking like they're on the right track. Acting as a supplement to Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus, the mobile counterpart looks to have enough to offer in both the gameplay and story departments to bring over even the most cynical of gamers.

Taking place during the events of the upcoming PS2 title, Lost Episode bridges the gap left in the middle of Dirge of Cerberus, as players take up arms as Vincent Valentine to battle those pesky ne'er do wells and other various adversaries. The gameplay will be a first-person/third-person hybrid, which right now feels a bit clunky, but playable none the less. Hopefully, it will be ironed out with a few tweaks and fixes, as it has some potential to be something special. Players control Vincent using the D-pad, using the third person view as they traverse the various environments.

The first person gameplay works rather well, as an auto targeting feature is used, allowing you to quickly zero in on an enemy and bring him down. While in the first person view, you're restricted to only pivoting the camera to the left or right, looking for something for Vincent to obliterate, but if you're in a jam, you can double tap the d-pad in a given direction to have Vincent lunge in the specified direction. Though the PS2 version will have melee attacks in addition to the constant barrage of bullets available in Vincent's arsenal, Lost Episode only allows you to use Vincent's guns.

On the upside, Vincent isn't a slouch when it comes to gunplay, as the controls are fast and responsive, granting you the ability to blow a whole through a foe fairly easy. To help you on your way, players will be able to use three different guns as they progress through the game: the Cerberus, Vince's default pistol; the Griffon, a fully automatic rifle; and the Hydra, a sniper rifle modified to suit Mr. Valentine's unique abilities. Another feature in the first person mode is the ability to create attack chains, similar to that of 2000's Vagrant Story. Chains work based on whether or not you time things correctly. If take a shot at just the right time, you can link attacks together, making them stronger and stronger, taking out enemies with increasing ease.

In the version that we played, the third-person portions felt a bit off as you could only go forward, backward, left and right, without any chance to move diagonally. This normally wouldn't be an issue, but the auto centering feature on the camera was a bit sluggish, taking a little while to kick in before you could actually see what you were running towards. This would sometimes create situations where you can't see if there are any enemies in the vicinity. It's something that's potentially easily remedied, with a faster response time, or even an auto-center button, but we'll have to wait until the final build before we can see if it's fixed.

The good folks over at Square Enix promise us that there are about two to three hours of gameplay, including some impressive cinematic videos as well as some fan service by way of popular characters from the original making cameo appearances. Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode will be available this summer on Amp'd Mobile, with a release on Verizon Wireless towards the holiday season of this year. On the downside, the Verizon version will only be available on higher end handsets, as the game is fairly demanding, but for those who wait for the Verizon version, a multiplayer mode will be available for some head to head chaos. Stay tuned to IGN for a full review as soon as the Lost Episode is released later this summer.
