SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

I have a DFI systemboard model K6BV+3/66 and a K6 2 500Mhz proccessor. I have on DIMM2 128MB SDRAM PC133 and on DIMM3 64MB SDRAM PC100. The board doesnt give much than 100Mhz for the RAM clock. The PROBLEM is that my system see only 128MB total memory instead of 192MB.

What should i do to have all my memory available?

Hi Carol, I didn't find a e-mail to ask you personally. I guess, as it is already a while ago you had the problem with your memory there is a good changse that you solved it yet. I have the same problem and I am seeking for quiet a time to find a solution. (Well I have the same board, and tow 64 MB pc100 and one 128 MB pc133. The board gives me just 64 each...) I read the manual, tried to change things in the bios, I changed the memory jumper...).
If you know how to do it - or anybody else - PLEASE tell me. I need more memory urgently!!! Thanks!

re: SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

I could be mistaken but I don't know if mixing PC100 and PC133 is a good idea because I have a motherboard that can handle PC100 and PC133 Sdram, its one or the other but never mix the two because of the difference in Mhz and the owners manual clearly says that to, so maybe that is an issue here but I could be wrong.

re: SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

To my knowledge, The mother board would clock down or up any memory you put in the board. IE, If you had a 100 mhz bus board, and you had PC133 memory it would be clocked back down to 100 mhz. Or of you had PC 66 memory then it would be clock up to 100 mhz. In this case, the memory would be at risk of getting fried because it is only certified to run at 66 mhz. But I have gotten away with it.

Yo, I got the same board, seems to be a nice board picked up the comp it came with the board got it for free, it's got 4 or 5 pci, 3 ISA, 1 AGP, it's pretty nice, K6-2 500@550, i Thought i had 2 sticks of 128 and a stick of 64, the Stick of 128 that i know is 128 is Pc-133, and the 64 is Pc-100, the last stick is Pc-133, but it don't say what the ram size is, but my comp always detects 256, humm, only problems im having with this comp is detecting a newer HD IBM 7200RPM 41.00 gig HD, it will and it wont i don't understand, and i got a GF2 TI ASUS V7700 Video card i install 52.14 WHQL Drivers called ForceWare it gets memory DUMPS the board is weird, lata all

re: SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

I realize these are old posts but as versatile and reliable as this board is I feel many are still using it at least as a backup computer like me. I wanted to upgrade my memory too and had 1 stick of pc133 and a stick of pc133 128mb and board only ever recognized the 256mb as 128mb. However the pc133 128mb stick counts up fine. Hmmmm! I have never found a solution to this so eventually got a hold of some pc100 sdram and installed that instead. The board was not intended to use pc133 anyway so I guess when in doubt do what the manual tells you.

G'day,
Larry

re: SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

Had someone upgrade my system in Jan 2001. That's when I got this board. He put an NEC 64MB SDR133-6L 8x8 memory card in it. A year and a half ago, I replaced my 4GB HD with a 40GB HD and all was fine until several months ago, when I started having memory problems. I think it coincided with upgrading my browser software. I found this forum while verifying what kind of memory cards are compatible with this board. May I assume any sdram 100 or 133 will do? Doesn't have to be a certain make (mine is NEC)? Must be 8x8? That's the size, right?

The guy who upgraded my machine told me the memory types had to match, so he warned me only to put 64MB or only 128 or only 256 and don't mix them up. That may be the source of many of your problems.

re: SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

Found it! YES, 8x8 is the SIZE of the memory card. Did a search on google for sdram 133 8x8 and this link came up:
http://www.comtread.com/sdrampc133.html
Looks good. Good prices, it's all sdram so it will work with my motherboard, and they give you a refund if it doesn't fit your system. Good luck, guys!

re: SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

Checking further on the above link, if you go to the FAQ and scroll down, you can enter your motherboard maker and model number (mine is DFI K6BV3+/66) and it will TELL you which RAM cards will fit your system! If you pick more than one, you have to search again, though. And the FAQ answers the other memory questions on this thread, too.

re: SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

Hi folks.

The Ram Problem with this Board is, it can't recognize single sided Rams correctly and only gives you half the Ram, which was installed. I bought a single sided 256 Ram Stick. The Bios only counts up to 128. I returned the Ram and replaced it with a double sided Ram Stick, all 256 MB are present. And it doesn't matter to mix 100Mhz and 133 Mhz with this Board. My current configuration: 1x 64MB 100Mhz Infineon, 1x 128MB 133Mhz Toshiba, 1x 256MB 133Mhz Infineon. BIOS Settings, all Turbo, CAS Latency 2 running perfect stable.

re: SDRAM 128MB PC133 compatibility on K6BV+3/66 motherboard

I have this same MB and have 128 meg in slot 1 and 2. Slot 3 seems to have some sort of data problem. Sandra shows it all garbled in the MB info part. Not only that I have to reboot to get it to go into CAS 2. Anyone have any idea what is up with all this?
