Elfman Contributes to Fable Soundtrack

February 18, 2004—Microsoft Game Studios announced today that music celebrity Danny Elfman has composed the theme for the upcoming Xbox roleplaying adventure Fable™.

Elfman, three-time Academy Award® nominee and front man for the eighties new-wave band Oingo Boingo, is best known for his unique musical style. Movie-goers have heard his work in the soundtracks of dozens of popular films, including Chicago, Batman, Spider-Man, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Beetlejuice. For Fable, Elfman’s first foray into the world of videogame soundtracks, he worked with a hand-picked orchestra and recording team to produce a magical theme in full 5.1 Surround Sound.

In Fable, the groundbreaking roleplaying adventure from game designer Peter Molyneux, players’ actions determine their characters' skills, appearances, and moralities. Characters' life stories are created from childhood to death. They can grow from inexperienced children into the most powerful beings in the world, choosing the path of righteousness or dedicating their lives to evil.

Muscles expand with each feat of strength. Force of will increases with each work of wit. Obesity follows gluttony. Skin tans with exposure to sunlight and bleaches bone-white by moonlight. Players earn scars in battle and lines of experience with age. With each person they aid and every creature they slay, they change the world forever. In Fable, gamers decide: “Who will I be?”

I don't remember what any of his work sounds like, but it sounds interesting that he's now working on Fable. I'm sure he'll do a good job on the soundtrack/theme, as hollywood music producers usually do (such as Harry Gregson Williams on MGS2).

I'm guessin it might be possible to get some samples, perhaps he did the music for the Fable video...

Yeah, the music you hear in the trailers should be done by him, it sounds like it too

I never really cared about game music until Halo because that music guy was a genius. And the monks are my idols now. Does this guy play like classical and modern or like total classical like other games? Becuase he sounds good if he got like 3 Academy Awards better then thoose useless grammys.

yeah that would kick ass to have costum stuff but they should catogorize it like in true crime. that way you dont have heavy fast stuff playing and a wedding.

I loved the music filter in True Crime!!! I would hate to have it be like in Tony Hawk where your you know skating and its sunny out and lalala and like some extremely sad depressing song it on and it like destroys the moment. Yeah it would suck but it would be awesome for your wedding band to kinda be Metallica becuase there technically playing!

I know it would be kinda cool, but I seriously doubt they will let us. If they got somebody like Danny Elfman doing the music, their gonna make you listen to it

I hope it will be dynamic music, changes to fit the situation and how you play.
