The mayor's daughter thing was from Project Ego. It got taken out when it became Fable. There are only two town leaders in the game - Lady Grey, mayor of Bowerstone, and the Chief of Knothole Glade - and you can't own either in the original Fable.

And yes, you can become a member, if you want.

how do u set up a shop

You can't actually set up a shop, but you can buy them, if the owner no longer lives in the region. You can either lead him/her out of town, if s/he likes you well enough, or you can kill him/her.

Then buy the shop. You have the choice between living in it or renting it out. Living in it doesn't come with many benefits, but if you rent it out, you can collect rent every three days and the merchant who rents it from you will frequently give you a discount on his/her wares.

owning a town is so fun especially since they cant buy back their house. lol once i bought all teh houses and shops and sutff but i didnt rent it out so eferyone was just wondering around lol
