Cute Nintendo love it or hate it?
|
Hi all just wanted to know what everyone realy thinks about nintendo wether your a true blue fan, a sony fan, and x nintendo fan or a reborn nintendo fan. or maby you like both nintendo and sony equaly, I do. but there is one thing i am realy getting annoyed about with nintendo and it's too cutesie there main focus is for kids games to young gamers.
here is my oppinon and fan history to give you an idea what i'm goin on about.
I got my 1st vidio game system SNES in 1993 for my 6th Bday from then on i was hook to vidie games. I moved on from the SNES to N64 from Game Boy pocket to GBC to GBA to GBSP But as i grew nintendo didnt seem to grow I found myself switching sides from a nintendo loylest to a sony fan something i would have never thought of doing. Sony seemed to have better games and at one point nintendo looked to be going down the drain. Sony had a much wider age range games for everyone kids, family, teen, adults. All nintedo had was Mario and a bunch of cute charactors witch were cute and fun even cool to play in the games but eventualy wear out there novelty. Even today nintendo are still pushing out these cutesie games witch are fine and good but maby if they started makeing some less cute games theyd keep there older games. Don't get me wrong i have ditchd soney psp for the nintendo ds and love mario and animal crossing and I'm 19. I think that if anything nintendo has slipped even further i mean there quality in games now isn't the best i mean has anyone who has played zoo tycoon actualy liked it? it's like they'l wack a nintendo seal on anything nowa-days. I'm sorry to offend all you nintendo loyalests out there but hey thats what i think.
anyone else wanna say something (and yes i do prattle on a bit) i dear someone to beat me and make an even longer post g on my topic.

i like the whole cute thing, that was one of the reasons i bought the DS. i've only ever had a PS2 and i kinda 'ran out' of games that interested me. i've played all the rpgs i can get hold of, and most of the games are all... well they dont interest me! so I bought a DS and so far i love it. im still a playstation fangirl mind. DS games > Psp games by far as well. srsly.

Zoo Tycoon is published by THQ. Saying no to a 3rd party publisher is akin to shooting yourself in the foot - you simply don't do it. So there's not much Nintendo can do about 3rd party games. They need the 3rd party support.
Onto the point I think you're wrong. Going off the GCN/NDS generation we've had quite a wide selection. Nintendo-published goods have included Metroid Prime series, F Zero, Eternal Darkness, Fire Emblem (come on Ds version), Advance Wars... Some of these might include what you'd consider "cute" characters (namely the last 1 mentioned) but the gameplay involved is quite complex.
Speaking of which, there's nothing wrong with "cute", or at least a softer presentation. A game doesn't need super realistic graphics or lots of blood and violence to present an appealing visual presentation, and it doesn't (or at least shouldn't) impact on the gameplay. Cute graphics does not equal a kiddie game. I'd like to see a kid S rank missions in Battalion Wars for example.
I mean, I've recently been playing Yoshi's Island DS and am finding it a lot of fun. I find the visuals charming rather than off-putting. This coming from a 20 year old who has been playing since the NES days. Perhaps your visual preferences are just changing, but then you will find these styles on other consoles too. Crash? Spyro?

i like that point and i agree you don't need bloood and guts to make a good game. I still like mario i got the mario bros ds. I am a huge fan of Mega Man/X searies I wish it'll come out on ds. being in Au we don't have those titel down here it'll be worth looking into thoe. or if they have them i havent seen theme yet I havent had my DS long. lol still i don't like googelie eyes g and i like sony and ds same as each other.

What`s going on with people thinking that Nintendo is too "childish"? Nintendo is based to ALL THE FAMILY, that`s something great about Nintendo. I mean, Super Mario for the NES, it was just awesome, I bet that every person in this world enjoyed it. If Nintendo would be just doing childish games, adults would never play the Nintendo systems.

What's great about Nintendo is that they keep bringing back the classics, or improve them. Take the conventional "Super Mario Bros" for example, as Andy mentioned above. I love the remake on the DS. Needless to say, even though I'm a Playstation fan myself, but I grow more and more to like Nintendo as a fan of the brand.
I don't see Nintendo is getting "cutesie". If their main targets are kids, then it's understandable. Kids to teens are the main targets of gaming industries, believe it or not >_>.

That's true. There are also more kids and teens that play videogames. Adults don't have time most of the time.

I think Nintendo sucks. I mean, they have horrible software and hardware. I buy a GCN, and I always get the black screen of death when I play a lot of games. I get a DS Lite, I send it Nintendo to get it fixed and it comes back with a dead pixel! WTF?! And then I get too cracks in the hinges. Yep, Nintendo consoles are always rugged [/sarcastic fanboy statement]
And Nintendo games suck. All get boring after you finish the main story, of after one week of play. I mean, Super Mario Sunshine was fun, super hard, and then it sucks after you beat it. No replay value at all.
Super Smash Brothers Melee, a boring button masher that only yields fun with 3/4 people. No replay value.
Mario Kart, gets repetitive and boring after racing on the same, boring tracks. Wi-Fi is fun, but also will get boring. No replay value, once again.
Super Mario 64 DS. No replay value.
Animal Crossing wild World is fun, but get's very boring and repetitive. See the secret code I'm trying to subliminally submit to you? It's the fact that old/used franchises shouldn't be worn out. Seriously, give Mario a frackin' rest
But in conclusion, we have found out only one thing... New packages, same products, new levels of horrid replay vlaue.

I enjoy the Nintendo DS! I like the cute factor also. It has cute games, and a cute feel. Some people may say it's childish, but others may not - IMO, I love it!

I used to be a hardcore Sony fan, but then I was a little mixed - I didn't think that the PS3 would be great (yeah, I said it) - and finally, I'm gradually become more of a Nintendo fan, which seems right, since my first ever games console was made from Nintendo.

I had a sega master system: loved it then got a playstation 1: loved it then got a gamecube: it was good at first, but i eventually hated it. mean while, i had a gameboy: loved it then got a gameboy color: loved it then got a gameboy advance: loved it, then got a Nintendo DS, still loving it, but not near as much as i did the gba. then got a psp, love it to death. Ironically, i won't touch a psp game and am always playing legel homebrew games... cough snes cough gba cough gb. Now i look at the next generation consoles and cringe at how horrible all of them are looking, and instead consider a nintendo64. So i guess what i think is, Nintendo is the best, but all newer games suck, so don't look Nintendos way or in any other companies direction, if you want quality games: oldschool is the way to go.

Rizzy11, this is the DS forum not the Wii forum.
As for the love it / hate it antonym, definitely love the DS.
Animal crossing ftw.

anyone else wanna say something (and yes i do prattle on a bit) i dear someone to beat me and make an even longer post g on my topic. Valid point, however, as many have said, what you define as cutsie would be alot of Nintendo franchises. However, I have a slight feeling your judging the games purely on the looks... and that is certainly the wrong way to look at a game. also Im gald you joking LZ
