Ping problems - need help! |
|
So I've been having problems with my latency when playing CS: Source lately, and I just don't get why.
My internet connection is 20 megabits. My computer is brand new, so there shouldn't be any spyware/viruses on it. When I play at full settings I get at least 100fps, often 150. So my specs shouldn't be a problem. Still I have this huge ping problem. Even at really fast servers with an average ping of 20, I go way above everyone else, from 80-150 on average. And I often get kicked when my ping gets too high. What am I missing here? I should mention that the internet connection is shared at the place I live, with the router being one floor above me. Also it's wireless. Could that be the problem? In Windows Vista I get 4/5 of those green bars though, indicating I have a good/very good connection. I just can't figure out what went wrong. Please help me if you've got any tips or input to this problem ------------------- AMD X2 6000+ @ 3.0 GHz 2GB Corsair DDR2 RAM XFX GeForce 8600GT 256MB GDDR3

I dont have much in the way of technical knowledge but is there no way you can get a wired connection? Whith such a high speed connection you should still be very fast on wireless but ive never liked wireless things at all and i avoid using them wherever possible because they never seem to work properly! This may be the case with you, it might just be WIRELESS being its typical self and sucking! Sorry i cant give you a REAL answer.

perhaps it's due to shared connection, the other computer may be on and taking up bandwidth?
try with the other computer off, and if you still have that problem, try closing AIM and stuff like that. Wireless shouldn't be the problem... -------------------

open task manager and shut any un-needed programms and check if anything is using your internet, go on online bandwidth test, and if all else fales try another server, some servers have stupidly low ping rates.

I know with a couple isp's when ever you do a "steam" server search it causes your internet to slow like crazy. I have no idea why or how it does this.
When I had comcast cable it did this for a bit. Even when I switched to Verizon FiOS it did it for a bit. It randomly fixed over time. Wireless could be another problem. I used to have a drop problem when I was on wireless. That was about it. I wouldn't advise just going straight from wireless to a hard line, just try other things like updating your firmware for your router. ------------------- CEVOm S9 - 50Calibre - ESEAim S5
