Maple Story on Intel Mac... Doesnt work...
|
So my friend convinced me enough to actually download maple story and see what it was all about. I have an intel mac with the core 2 duo processor. I used boot camp and made a 10 gig partition for my windows, intalled all the drivers, installed Maple Story, and then..... the keyboard doesnt work. I can't type anything. I can still move the mouse but all keyboard functions are shot. I click quit and then BAM! i can't use the keyboard for ANYTHING. WTF??!!! I'm guessing its strangely incompatible but i can't see why. I've played CS, CS:S, GunBound, Raikon, RO, etc. but for some reason maple story screws up my keyboard. WHYY???!!!

Whether it did or not for other games, Maple Story will only work with Microsoft Windows as an operating system. There is no way around it, you are going to have to wait until the game is expanded to work on a Mac.

quoteAt this time, the latest version of Parallels will not allow MapleStory to run.
Requirements Along with the programs below, in order to play MS on a Mac your Macintosh itself must meet some requirements. First, it MUST be a newer Mac model, either an iMac 17, an iMac 20, an iMac 24 (all iMac models are grouped by screen size), an Intel Core Duo based Mac Mini, an Intel Core Duo based Mac Pro, any of the 3 new MacBook models, or a MacBook Pro. Basically, you need an Intel Core to "trick" your system into thinking your on a legitimate Windows System.
Software Choices There are currently 2 proven, working and quality retaining ways to play MS on a Mac, which are explained in detail below.
The first way is to use the free Apple program "BootCamp". It is available on the apple website on the Mac OS X homepage. After downloading and installing the software onto your Macintosh computer, open the BootCamp program from the Dock or your applications folder. Follow the setup instructions on screen and when prompted, insert the Windows XP installation disk you got with your PC/purchased. This will install Windows onto a seperate partition of your Macs hard drive. After inserting the Windows XP install disk, you will have to go through the same Windows XP setup you did when installing it on your PC. Fill out the corresponding areas. The next time you turn your Mac on, you will have the choice of using the Mac OS X 10.4 operating system or the Windows XP operating system. Select the Windows XP operating system. This new operating system will automatically pick up the internet settings of your Mac and you will be able to get onto the internet. Go directly to the Nexon website and download a new version of the MapleStory installation file, or ask a friend with a CLEAN (virus, adware and spyware free) Windows version to give you a copy, and then install MapleStory as you normally would. The best part of BootCamp is that it makes the Windows XP partition IMPENETRABLE to viruses, making sure that you will NEVER have to worry about downloading any antivirus software for it.
To resume running in the (in my opinion) better operating system (Mac OS X 10.4) simply use the Shut Down command in Windows XP and then turn your Mac back on and select the Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" operating system instead of Windows.
The next way to run MS on a Mac is to use Parallels Desktop for Mac. Because I can't post links, the easiest way to find this program is to do a Google search for "Parallels" without the quotation marks. I personally use this program, and it is the BETTER of the 2, but the downside to this is that its $80 with a 14 day trial. It sets up almost the same way as BootCamp except that once its installed, you need to open the Parallels software from either the Dock or the Applications folder and allow the Automated Windows setup wizard to guide you through setup. When its done, simply open Parallels again, select Run and after Windows is ready, the new operating system will automatically pick up the internet settings of your Mac and you will be able to get onto the internet. Go directly to the Nexon website and download a new version of the MapleStory installation file, or ask a friend with a CLEAN (virus, adware and spyware free) Windows version to give you a copy, and then install MapleStory as you normally would. From here on, simply launch MapleStory from the Desktop within Parallels and play. This partition is also impenetrable to viruses and does not need antivirus software. Also, you can discover the amazing little features of Parallels by looking through the various menus on the Mac bar. Some of them are really cool, and some are also useful!
Note: While I say that the Windows partitions are impenetrable to viruses, your Mac calculates this ASSUMING you will be using the regular Mac Operating System for normal day-to-day tasks and only using the Windows partitions for the first few programs installed onto the Windows operating system. If you install too many programs or PURPOSELY download viruses, your partition WILL crash and eventually not run anymore, potentially causing damage to your Mac partition. USE THESE PROGRAMS WITH CAUTION!
Have Fun! Now that you can play MS and run a few Windows programs on a Mac, you can finally stop worrying about that clunky, ugly and possibly slow PC of yours, sell it and buy a Mac knowing you can easily migrate your gaming needs onto your new, more powerful computer and discover the ease of use that is Macs standard!
Took me awhile to find this, I was also curious on if u can play MS on a Mac

No really. Why bump a 1 year old thread. Make a new one for it please.
And MapleStory does not work on Macs, and will probably never will.

Yes, it will. You just need Boot Camp and a legitimate copy of Windows XP.
