What are the benefits of a higher job-level?

It's in the thread's name, i can't see what the big difference is. When I beat Djinn on my first save my highest job lv. was 20, beat him the other day: highest job lv. 46 but there didn't seem to be significant difference could someone fill me in on what a job level does?

Varies with the class. In general they will be a little at what they do. After all, a Geo of a low JL will not clear 9999 with shadow flare. The one obvious thing is that Monk/BB's unarmed attack rises with it thus allowing you to use the fist at the beginning of the game with 300+ attack.

Job level will also have an effect on how many hits your character will land on the enemy. I'm not entirely sure if this is the max, but the highest I've seen was 32 hits.

Also, certain classes have different benefits from higher JL. BBs/Monks have an increase in their unarmed attack, Scholars will further increase the effect of an item used in battle, Mages will find an increase in their magical abilities, and so on.

Hmm i see... I guess it was just a freelancer's problem then, thanks I am gonna get my job levels up a bit now.

32 hits, wouldn't that be a bit pointless, it's too long for someone as impatient as myself.

The length of time it takes to attack doesn't really change with the number of hits. It doesn't even show them hitting that many times. It only shows about 12 very fast hits, and says it's 32.

re: What are the benefits of a higher job-level?

does having a job level raised still affect the character even when they switch to a different job? As if raising the JL permanently increases their stats, so that they have the stats even when going from, say, a Black Mage to a Sage so they wud keep some of the BM's magick power??

or do the stats raised by the JL only matter when in that current job?
