re: Job Discussion/Debate Thread V1

White Mage:The great class of the game until the Earth Crystal. Even after the crystal, it takes a while for the Devout to match the White Mage in versatality.

Benefits:There are only a select few classes that can heal before the Devout/Sage comes along (Red Mage, Knight, Scholar, Evoker, Bard, Freelancer :/), but nothing matches the healing power of a White mage. Once you reach the higher job levels of the game, not only does Cure heal for a considerable amount of damage (for a Level 1 spell), but you have access to over 40 casts. The plentiness of status-changing items allows the Mage to keep its high-level spells for a better purpose. Then there's also Raise, Haste, Protect, Reflect, Teleport- the list just keeps going. Then there's that great magic defense and back-row support.

Downfalls:When there's a lot of low-level magic, there's not a lot for the high-level magic. You need around a JL 50 mage to cast Raise and JL 70-80 to cast the level 7 magic (Don't quote me on the levels). They're not exactly the speedy magic casters, so there will be frustrating events when the enemy finishes the heavy defender off before the mage heals them, giving the heal to a fully healed person instead. Back attacks from the enemy are devastating for the White Mage, and they are worthless fighting alone or as a duo.

I think I'm missing something, some sort of other downfall that White Mages have. I don't know, I guess I'll have to come back with the idea later, although I think it has to do with offense...

Verdict:White Mages are simply... amazing. One class your party simply cannot do without.

*Last note- roflmao at Ingus as the White Mage. *

Black mages are just... Unnecessary. Sure they can use black magic 1-7, but black magic isn't that well, since white magic and just pure attacks beat it. That, and the costume looks horrible.

Black mage is just one of the un-useful jobs to me.

Initially, BM exceeds all physical attacks, then twoards the middle of the game your fighters get stronger. Also, if you take into account elemental weaknesses, the results can be devistating. That, and midget BMs do much better then the fighting class midgets.

Best-dressed class in the game. Other than that, there's really no pro's. I mean, they're a steady class to have toward the beginning, but the only class with less potential is the red mage.

My first file that I deleted, I had one for 2 crystals. Second one that has surpassed first one-Used Red Mage instead but would've rather used monk.

re: Job Discussion/Debate Thread V1

Black Mage:The offensive caster of the game. He is responsible for level 1-7 black magic- the elemental spells and status-inflicting conditions. My opinions do not point toward the use of a Black Mage.

Benefits: Many bosses have some sort of elemental weakness, so Black Mage elemental strikes can hurt a boss badly. Geomancy greatly depends on the environment, and summoning doesn't become reliable until the last crystal. Black Magic is especially useful on enemies/bosses that have a particularly high physical defense. They also aren't offensive patsies like White Mages are.

Downfalls: They have the least potential of any of the Mage types. They have 40+ level 1 magic like White Mages do, but against the biggest bosses, Fire and Blizzard are as useless as a ninja throwing a wooden stick. Higher-level status magic, like Breakaga aren't particularly effective against any boss, and physical attacks from a fighter are probably more effective without any sort of cost to them.

Verdict: The game designers probably made the Giant Rat boss because they felt bad for the pathetic state of the Black Mage. Maybe if they had unlimited Death casts could they be of some sort of use.

re: Job Discussion/Debate Thread V1

As far as Ingus goes he is great at a lot of different jobs. However as freelance goes as soon as the first set of jobs becomes available he becomes my thief. I have tried him at a lot of different things and he is the best thief.

You should've read the first post before posting, danikat. The current job is Black Mage. Ingus is just there because he's the current leader in the fav. character poll thread.
