does anybody know what those gold medal ribbons on the track are. You can pick them up but I cant seem to figure out what they do?

By collecting those medals in single player mode, you can unlock additional characters (the Tremlord, I believe). At least, if you can pick up each of the three medals in each level

About those medals... There are two medals I'm trying to find...

Looking for the Dasher medal in the fourth level (the Ruins/jungle level)

and

Looking for the Glider medal in the Snow level.

Any help?

Dasher medal in the fourth level can be found from tunnel. Look for a slab on the ground with a skull image. After you step on it, a secret door is opened straight ahead. Next to slab there is a turbo pad from where you can take some extra speed.

Could you tell where is the glider medal it the same level.

I found it. It was on top of a pillar near the bridge.

Glider medal in the Snow level can be found on top of a shed. Go to the glider route right after the start. If you follow that route you get to a point where you can see another glider route mark. The medal is right after it, you just need to glide on top of the shed, slide on top of it, and jump at right time.

I am still having trouble finding the Glider Gold Medal for the "Ruins" level. I've looked around the bridge to no avail. Can anyone help me before I lose what is left of my brain?

You must use the catapult near the bridge to get to the top of the pillar.

I just can't find the basher medal in ruins Where is it? it's last one before I get trmmel king -.-
