re: MLB Discussions - American League 2009

Thing is though, if the season ended today, you would play Detroit, not LA. Boston would play LA. And if track record stays the same, Boston will win. LA can't perform in the postseason. None of their guys have playoff stuff. Their pitching is average at best this season, and in the playoffs, pitching and defense wins, not necessarily a good offense. A Boston-New York ALCS is inevitable though.

The only problem I see with your analysis and prediction, MJ (though I AGREE that this is how it will play out!) is that the season is not ending today. Detroit can still catch LA, they are not that far away, and then it would be NY against LA and Boston against Detroit.

Well, the Yankees could put the final nail into the coffin of Tampa Bays ever waning Wild Card hopes over the next three games.

I don't think so, but anything is possible. By the way, I DO NOT consider double posting to be when you have something to different to post and wait until the next day, which is what I did.

On topic: Yanks have a 4-1 lead in the 9th with one out.

Rofl, you want to see double posting, check out the Bowling thread, I've like quintuple posted in there over the course of a month!

Yanks are down 1-0 right now, although they have two on, one out in the 3rd as we speak...

Edit: As I dropped a deuce the Yankees scored 5 runs so far, three on Mark Teixeira's 3 run bomb to deep center.

Well after taking the double-header, the Yankees are now 9 games up atop the AL East with 23 games left to play.

I hope the Yankees make it to the World Series just so I can see them get crushed by St Louis.

That was a bomb by Teixeira though.

That would be a great series.

Sabathia, Burnett, and Pettitte vs Carpenter, Wainwright, and ..... Pineiro?
Jeter, Damon, Arod, Teixeira, Cano, and Posada vs Pujols, Holliday, and Rick Ankiel? Ludwick? lol

The more I think of it, nah, no thanks. I'd rather the Yankees kill Torre, Manny, and the Dodgers.

re: MLB Discussions - American League 2009

I disagree, I rather see the Yankees play St.Louis. It has a much better feel to it then Yankees against Dodgers. I want a baseball game, not something that the yankees will steam roll over.

23 games left, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.

Like Red Sox slumping and rays winning to take them into wildcard position. Even though Rays bullpen hasn't been great as of late.

I beg to disagree with that but I digress.

Red Sox: 78-56

Rays: 72-62

Shut up, Final.
And what's your point, Ryan? Both have almost the same record, bar rays with 6 wins less and red sox 6 less loses. Really now, I think you need to stop provoking arguments.

LOL at the anyone thinking the Rays have a shot.

Their shot, what little was left, went away with Pena's broken fingers.

The Rangers need to stop thinking they're good so the Sox can cruise into the post-season with the WC spot.

LMAO!!

I agree, and you have to know how painful it is for me to agree with anything you say, Moonset.

Seriously, Final, are you absolutely insane? 6 games is "almost an identical record?" In what universe other than the magical fantasy world of Final Blade? 6 games is...wait for it...a pretty big lead, dude. There is an old saying in baseball: "Every team is going to win 50 games, and every team is going to lose 50 games. It's what you do with the other 62 that matters."

Boston is a way better team than the Rays, and I believe the Sox are only going to open up the lead on them. Oh, and it is a 7.5 game lead now.

As I read that line, Nick Swisher blasted a walk off HR to right field to win the game in the bottom of the 9th.

Yanks are now 40 games over .500 with a 90-50 record and the Rays are 17.5 games behind the Yankees and have fallen below the Mariners in the Wild Card race. I think this week pretty much kissed any playoff hopes goodbye for the Rays, barring an amazing comeback, these 7 losses in a row have come at the worst time in the season.

Jeter has gone 0-12 over the past three days trying to chase Lou Gehrig's all-time Yankees hit record. Oh well, he'll get it this weekend!

The Cardinals starting pitching come playoff time is so much better than the Yankees. Burnett? Pettitte? Haha, okay.

The Cardinals have enough offense to outscore teams when their starters only allow 2 or 3 runs per game.
