Controller Configuartion

Anyone have a guide on setting up the controls to be the same as the PS2 version, using a 360 controller?

As far as I'm aware, the triggers aren't recognised in GTA so that causes a few problems.

I've set it up roughly but I'd like to have it as near to the PS2 controls so I can enjoy the game fully.

re: Controller Configuartion

ok here's the PS2 controller broken down:

up -> forward /tune radio next station
left right -> left/right movement
down -> backwards movement

triangle -> in /out of cars
circle square -> fire/jump,brakes(respectively)
cross(x) -> acelerate/sprint

now the "r" and "l" buttons such as r1,r2 and l1,l2

r1 -> aim/target /activate nos / hand brake
r2 -> look left
l1 -> no clue
l2 -> look right
r2+l2 -> look behind

start button -> pause

if there's any i forgot let me know

re: Controller Configuartion

Square is jump etc. Thanks pal. Only problem is not having the L2/R2 equivalent using the 360 controller because the game doesn't recognise the triggers. Really awkward trying to fly with the 360 controller and also shooting from cars as well. I don't know if there's a fix for this, I doubt it though. Might have to buy a PS2 to usb convertor to play it like I used to.

edit: Typo.

re: Controller Configuartion

There is a fix to get the Xbox360 triggers recognized, but it requires a 3rd party program to be started before and while running San Andreas.

Linkage please?

edit: I found Pinnacle Game Profiler, works a treat. Shame about having to buy it after the trial. If there's any program that does exactly the same without paying, I'd be interested in trying it out.

re: Controller Configuartion

First you need to set the buttons you want as the triggers on your controller to any 2 keys on your keyboard or mouse. Now you can setup the fix for the triggers to work

1.Go here, the download link is at the bottom of the page.
2.Plug in your Xbox360 controller to the PC if not already in
3.Start joytokey.exe, when it opens go to Create and name it something.
4.Once created, go to the "Others" tab on the right side of the program. Check "Use Axes other than X and Y". Then go back to the Joysticks Tab
5.Now you can set keyboard keys or mouse movements\clicks to controller Buttons and Axes.
"Axis3(<0)" is your Right Trigger
"Axis3(>0)" is your Left Trigger
Just set those two to whichever keys you want for the triggers.
6.Once you set your keys, minimize the program and run San Andreas. The program will be minimized in your Task bar so you can bring it up again if needed. The program must stay open in order for the keys\mouse to be set to the controller.

Sorry if I didn't explain very well, its sorta difficult to type out. But if you need any more help, let me know.

re: Controller Configuartion

Can anyone tell me how to configure the 360 controller for the pc. I'm unsure whether it is possible to use it on XP rather than Vista...

I have the game configured for the use of a controller but when I try to play with it, nothing. I have it set to joypad instead of mouse and keyboard, yet nothing. Plus, I also can't add the controller in Control Panel > Game Controllers. It's listed in the device manager and states that the controller works properly and it works fine on my 360. I'm connecting it through the USB via play and charge kit if that makes a difference.

re: Controller Configuartion

Play and charge kit won't work. You either need a Wired 360 controller or a wireless receiver. The most that controller is doing is charging

re: Controller Configuartion

That's such a pity, but looking on the bright side, the controller is fully charged.

Would a logitech 360 wired controller do the job? I can borrow one off a friend.
