New PSP questions.

I am in need of a new PSP becuase my current PSP has a few "issues". So I have two questions.

1. Which firmware comes with new PSPs? (interested in trying out homebrew)

2. Does it matter which motherboard your PSP has for downgrading/homebrew use?

I know very little about homebrew, and I have herd/seen that it can do some pretty cool stuff. So I that is why I need to know this information.

Thanks in advance.

There's a guide that tells you where to look on the box to check which firmware the PSP has. I'll look for it.

Here you are.

quote
As with the Playstation 2 there are a few different ways to find the version of your console before making a purchase. The first thing you need to be concerned about is the barcode on the box. Look for PSP-1001 K. The variable PSP-100x can be different, depending on where you live. Below that you will see the 120V branding, and below that a letter. Sony keeps track internally of which system is which by a letter code near the bottom of the psp box.

No Letter = 1.50 (North-American release) Confirmed

A = 1.5 confirmed

B = 1.51 confirmed

C = 1.52 confirmed

D = 1.52 confirmed

E = 1.52 confirmed

F = 2.0 confirmed

G = 2.01 confirmed

H = 2.50 confirmed

I = 2.60 confirmed

J = 2.70 unconfirmed

K = 2.71 confirmed

L = 2.81 confirmed

Downgrading Motherboards. = Looks like it doesn't matter.

2. Connect your PSP to your PC via the USB cable. Next, go on your PSP, go to settings and start USB mode.

3. Go to "My Computer" and go into your PSP. Now open up the .zip file the MPH downgrader came in, extract the 4 files on to your PSP. When it ask you if you would like to replace older folders, press yes.

4. Now on your computer, go into the folders PSP>GAME. Create a folder named "UPDATE". Now, unzip the eboot.pbp from inside the EBOOT_1.50.zip and place it inside the UPDATE folder you created.

6. If your PSP goes to a black screen and displays White text, the downgrade has been successful. If it just freezes, then hold your Power switch on your PSP up until it turns off. Then turn it back on and try going into the photo section again. Do this until you get the white text

7. Once you get the White text, hold up the Power switch on your PSP until it fully shuts off. Now turn your PSP back on, your PSP thinks its Firmware 1.00 but this does not mean you can run homebrew.

8. On your PSP, go to Game and your memory stick. Start the Firmware 1.50 update. Continue through the update

9. At the end of the update, your PSP will give you an error saying the update failed. Once again, hold up your PSPs Power switch until it shuts off.

Looks like you don't need a specific PSP motherboard, they seem to all work.

EDIT: Added Guide
I think I got everything. Just ask again if I didn't.
