Click continue if you have a person made.
Click on the phone and press Restet time.
Change date to a new year and to 1st of january.
Go on.
In your mailbox your mom/dad will have sent you 10.00 bells.
Just keep changing to a new year...same date and TA DA!!!

em...u cannot marry nor can you become boyfriend/girlfriend with ANY character in the game, the most that ever happens is you get their picture, any other comments/conversations are simply on the terms of friendship and hold no romantic value.

If you can get in on a conversation between two characters then you might witness a scene similar to this one. (Haven't Played in month or so. The dialough is off)

A girl animal and boy animal will talk, When you join them:
Girl: Oh hi (name). We were just talking about you. (name of boy charcter) don't you have something to say to (your name)?
Boy: No I don't?
However, the boy gets distressed and blushes and is sad after talking to the character. So, It is many people's theory that this is a sign that they may have a crush on you. You cannot marry.

That would be the key phrase there It does NOT mean FOR FACT that is a crush, it could be that the character is simply embarrassed over revealing their feelings. We've been down this road of logic before, any hints at romantic feelings between the player(human) and the neighbors(animal) would be hints at bestiality and thus would leave Nintendo open for a lawsuit.
