BETTER THAN TIM BURTON!!! |
|
My review of BATMAN BEGINS:
Director: Christopher Nolan (Greatly known for "Following" and "Memento") Cast: Christian Bale (Bruce Wayne/Batman), Katie Holmes (Rachel Dawes), Michael Caine (Alfred), Liam Neeson (Ducard). Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox), Ken Watanbe (Ra' Al Ghul), Gary Oldman (Jeff Gordon) Review: Three words folks- BETTER THAN BURTON!!! I thought Tim Burton's "Batman" (1989) will reign supreme as Michael Keaton being the ultimate Batman, boy I was dead wrong... Chris Nolan did an astonishing accomplishment with Batman Begins in terms of the comic book and realism. He masterfully created the surreal world of Gotham City with his combination to perfection. The character development for Bruce Wayne was unbelievable and most impressive. Wayne's alter-ego "Batman" was truly revived to a substantial level compared to any Batman ever created, dark and dreary as ever! Forget the eye-candy, the script and cast were just superb!!! Michael Caine's portrayal as Alfred was amazing. Although I must admit I did not find Katie Holmes to be that much of an appealing character, nevertheless that is my opinion. Freeman and Neeson were also brilliant. As for Ken Watanbe, I wish he had more words to say lol I love his acting and totally enjoyed his character as Katsumoto in "The Last Samurai". By the way Gary Oldman is the perfect Jeff Gordon! In terms of other elements, you will notice how things are very well connected and relevant to the plot, especially clichés linking Wayne with Batman. Everything is slowly revealed and put together like completing a copious jigsaw puzzle one by one. Visual Effects were dazzling along with sound effects. The Batman action sequences were just the way they should be, quick and deadly. Some may complain that it was a bit choppy but Nolan, as being a great director, knows what he is exactly doing. He is simply portraying the legendary masked crusader. The Batmobile was transformed into a more realistic version which is a great example how Nolan mixed realism into the movie. Digital Gotham was artistically incredible. I must confess I was literally in awe after watching this masterpiece. If you're looking for the summer blockbuster of 2005, this is it. Enjoy! ~Mo

Disappointing |
|
This movie was yet another let down from a degrading hollywood. I went to this movie with high expectations and was left deflated by another poorly written letdown.
Admittedly, this movie was better than all the other batman movies, other than the first, but the poor story, the unfinished look of the batman costume and the irritating to watch fight scenes left me with a feeling of disappointment, similiar to my feelings of Starwars 3. The storyline was just BAAAAAAAD. "We need to destroy Gotham" the line of the 'Bad' guys. Weak. I wish writers would apply a bit more logic and effort to their scripts. All in all I wished I had of saved my money and waited till it hit DVD.

Ive been a Batman fan since the second movie, and that was when I was about 2 years old I think. I feel like a comic geek but I dont care. Nah, the Joker didnt kill Bruce's parents. Although I kind of liked the idea of Jack Napier (the Joker never really had a real name) killing them with the Dance with the devil in the pale moonlight or whatever. I just saw the movie for the second time tonight, and I want more batman movies. I think they should stick with Bale as Batman, and I think they should go deeper into villian orgins. But thats just me.

loved the movie
really i'm a very old fan of batman probably since i was 5 or so but the movie watched it 2 days after it came out and as some had some low outcomes for the movie it was really better than i expected though they did change some of the story such as Ra's al guhl's intentions in the animated and comic stories he wanted to become immortal but became immesivly powerful and insane though in the movie Ra's is somewhat of an idealist an "exterminator of evil" he makes the best villian, while scarecrow was more of just a second string and pawn he was played well and the actor of Dr. Crane was just great in his role though a few more lines might have been liked the whole character development was great from how bruce got his fears of bats to the end of how he cultivated the gadgets and batcave alfred was good, not great but somewhat comical if you have a sense of humor they represented arkham asylum greatly one of many awesome points also at the climax of the movie you wonder "how is bruce going to stop the gas, its already escaped in the water mains" while the story somewhat confusing the best points are his arsenal of gadgets me driving back from the theater i wanted nothing less than getting my hands on a batmobile only two words while driving on the road "attack mode" so as i would rate this movie at the end the many good things outweight the bad the only bad points are some slight tweaks to the story such as villian points and heroe's mostly some fight scene distortions as a fan of the great batman series i rate it an 8.6/10 but as an average lover of movies a 7.2/10 the tweaks to the story just messed it up but still kept a climax i recommend seeing it or renting it later if you love action movies -------------------

I was fascinated with how the movie stayed true to the feel of the original graphic novels but still had a storyline that's pertinent right now. I mean, there's an entire subtext that's a commentary on terrorism, in my opinion. The changes to Ra's Al Ghul/League of Shadows motivations and Bruce Wayne's response point up some real truths about terrorism: 1) terrorism is usually a response to REAL corruption and injustice 2) terrorists always truly believe they are FIGHTING evil, not promoting it 3) terrorism is appealing to some people because it changes fear to empowerment in people's minds 4) the only real safeguard against terrorism is compassion. Even the weapon that is ultimately used against Gotham City is nothing more - and nothing less - than fear.
