Oh dear god it took me 3 hours to finally get the Genji Shield.
The Octaslash is very rare to occur at the right time, i even had 4 Master Octaslah Materias equipped, and encountering the Magic pot itself is pretty damn rare.  So if you have gotten the Genji Shield how lucky/unlucky were you, how long did it take  For those who Doesn't know: In mission 7-6-6 you encounter a Magic Pot, it asks you to use the following abillities on it. Gill Toss, Costly Punch, Do 99999 Damage, Octaslash. All in order if you do so he rewards you with Genji Shield which is one of the rarest Accessories in the game. It Gives Auto Barrier and MBarrier, Immune to all stats and Absorobs all elements, neat huh ?  -------------------  http://youtube.com/user/Ashe10 | |

Haven't tried for it yet; I don't have the mission available. Plus, I don't have an accessory that can break the Damage Limit.
Did you have any problems with Octaslash going off too early and making the Magic Pot run off? -------------------

Good to know. I have a plan already thought out to counter that, but I wasn't sure if it would be an issue.
Basically, I'm going to go with the following setup: Gil Toss Costly Punch Vital Slash Octaslash Hell Thundaga Status Ward (an accessory that breaks the Damage Limit; will probably be the Brutal) However, while I'm still getting things equipped, I'm going to deliberatley equip the Curse Ring, then remove it. The Curse status will stay behind, which will stop the DMW from spinning. I'll use Hell Thundaga to work my way through the Random Battles, then, when the Magic Pot appears, I'll get the first 3, then use a Remedy on myself. If all goes well, the DMW will soon trigger Octaslash, and I'll have a shiny new Genji Shield. -------------------

It took me about 2 hours to get the Genji Shield from him.I kept having bad luck with the DMW reel but in the end I prevailed.The only hard thing is getting Octaslash plus if you're really unlucky you'll get something else like Apocalypse,Meteor Rain,etc...(That happened to me).The same day I got the Shield I got all the Genji items and beat Minerva.She really wasn't much of a challenge with the right setup since she only had like 2/11 attacks that actually made me serious during the battle.I wasn't expecting mail right after the fight either,seriously how did Kunsel and SOLDIER recieve that info that fast.Sorry for the long post.

It just kinda ambushed me a day or two ago. It was a fierce battle, but in the end, I had to concede defeat. It was a good Idea, after all, so I'm just hoping it knows what it's talking about.

Im confused some of you guys speak as if you have an materia thats like Octaslash, do you get stuff like that? And if so does it increase the chances of it happening?

Until you remove it. I haven't done extensive testing; my only try was equipping the Cursed Ring and the Gris-Gris Bag at the same time to see if the Gris-Gris Bag would negate the Curse effect; it didn't, so I unequipped it, then went on with what I was doing. It wasn't until the next Random Battle that I noticed I still had the Curse status. So, as far as I can tell, it will stick around until you get rid of it; in other words, until you use a Remedy.

There are 4 shops that give Materia that give Materia that increases the chances of a Limit Break happening; one is actually available if you ignore Missions (Research Dept. QMC+, from Gongaga), but the others have to be found in Missions. The Octaslash Materia obtained from the Research Dept. QMC+ makes it far easier to get the Octaslash Limit Break, and purposely Cursing yourself ensures that you can control when you get the Limit Break; Magic Pots are extrememly picky, and even if Octaslash is what they want, they don't want it until they're ready for it. Octaslash happening too early is just as bad is doing something they don't want. -------------------
