Problem while playing |
|
Had a question, I recently re-installed FF8 to my new comp and I have encountered a slight problem with the gameplay. When is cities or buildings I get large black boxes that obscure my vision. The movie clips run great and on the earth views its all good, but any other time those boxes come back. I attempted to config and it said the 8-palette textures failed, is that the problem and how can I fix it

No, that's not the problem, the config failed the 8-bit palette texture test ever since I had the game but D3D rendering still worked for me on at least 3 different computers. This bug is exclusive to nvidia video cards, from Geforce 1 and above. There is a patch that should fix it called FF8SqeaNVPatch, but unfortunately it failed to adress the issue on my latest video card (it's a GF 6600). Howewer, it worked just fine on my old Geforce 2. First you should try downloading and installing the patch and if you have a newer nvidia video card on which the problem still occures, trying various nvidia driver versions might fix it but I'm not sure. I haven't had the patience to experiment with it yet. If you still can't solve it there is only two remaining options left: either you play it in software rendering mode or borrow an older Geforce or any non-nvidia video card from someone.
