Summoning sucks. It's like slayer except worse because after you do a buttload of slayer for the charms, you have to spend insane amounts of money to buy shards and ingredients.

Not really - if you're using Slayer to get charms, you will always make profit even after you spend that money on Summoning. Its like waterfiends - I dont go there to make money, I go there for charms only. However, with the drops I receive, I pretty much break even when I sell the drops, even after I have trained my summoning to the desired level.

cool, I don't think I can kill water fields at level 82, I don't fell like cracking out 1m on runes, and my range level is only 68

some chests give charms... its slow, but many people have done it.
