So, why are Jak and his pals taking part in a massive racing competition? Well, unless they defeat Krew and receive the cure, everyone will die due to mass poisoning. Yep.

Jak X will differ from a traditional racing game, in that you'll be able to drive around and take part in missions, in somewhat of a GTA-like manner. These missions will consist of standard races, time trials, "time boxes," and deathmatches, complete with guns, missiles, and all other sorts of weapons and gadgets. Just imagine going all Twisted Metal on Daxter. Aw.....

Besides standard split-screen multiplayer, it's also rumored that Jak X feature full online play.

Naughty Dog reveals through magazine EGM the first images and information on Jak X (provisional title) to appear on PlayStation 2 during the nearest autumn in the United States. It will be about a play of race whose history will take seat after the last opus and will put in scene the heroes of the series infected by a mortal poison who will have to do everything to gain the great competition and to recover the antidote held by diabolic Krew. Several modes of play will be available as well as an arsenal of weapons, mines, missiles, Turbo Boosts and other kits of repair. Jak X should even be playable on line according to the magazine.
