Introduction
Get your hands above your head! You are under arrest! GET YOU- ![]() Oh... okay, then. *puts down gun* Ambipom made his debut in DP, giving a point to the otherwise useless Aipom. He's seen plenty of use so far, and does very well as a lead. In fact, he's one of few leads I actually enjoy. Base Stats: 75/100/66/60/66/115 Movesets Starter Ambipom @ Life Orb Technician Jolly: 252 atk, 252 spd, 6 hp Fake Out Shadow Claw/Fire Punch Taunt U-turn A leading Ambipom. Fake Out first turn in (unless you anticipate a switch to a ghost, then by all means Shadow Claw). Taunt when appropriate, then run away with U-turn when you just don't think Ambi can take the risk. Fire Punch is an alternative to Shadow Claw to give it something to hit steels, but then Ghosts, which are more prone to come in on Fake Out, will laugh at you. CBpom Ambipom @ Choice Band Technician Jolly: 252 atk, 252 spd, 6 hp Double Hit/Return Shadow Claw/Pursuit Thunderpunch/Fire Punch Ice Punch I put Tauros out of a job! Obvious. Still works fine as a leader due to speed, but it can work when left as a revenge killer too if you opt for pursuit. Double Hit is obvious for STAB and is slightly stronger than Return, and also can punch through substitutes, but you can go with Return if you don't like the Accuracy issue.. Thunderpunch hits waters and Skarmory where Fire Punch hits the likes of Skarmory, Forretress, Heracross, etc. Ice Punch is obligatory for Dragons. Nasty Plot Pass Ambipom @ Leftovers Technician Timid: 252 hp, 252 spd, 6 sp atk Nasty Plot Baton Pass Swift Substitute/Taunt/Thunderbolt Most people are going to expect Ambipom to be throwing out a physical beatdown and switch to their wall, so it's easy to get off a Nasty Plot. If they brought in something that is going to Roar, Taunt it. After that, BP out to whatever needs the boost. Swift gets STAB and Technician if you ever need to attack with it. Thunderbolt is an option if you want it to surprise the incoming Skarmory or Bulky Water (Read: Not Swampert). Last Resort Ambipom @ Silk Scarf Technician Jolly: 252 atk, 252 spd, 6 hp Fake Out Last Resort No real type coverage here, but painful nonetheless. Could potentially sweep a team if you got their normal resists out of the way. Agility Pass/Sweep Ambipom @ Leftovers/Life Orb Technician Adamant: 252 hp, 252 atk, 6 spd Double Hit/Return Subsitute/Taunt/Shadow Claw/Fire Punch Agility Baton Pass/Thunderpunch/Ice Punch Ambipom makes a fine agility passer and sweeper as well. Same moves as the CBer for the most part. Other Options It could rest-talk for status absorption maybe. Focus Punch or Brick Break could vastly increase coverage, but they aren't exactly the most desirable for it. Grass Knot, Shadow Ball, and Hidden Power are open if you want a novelty special sweeper. Screech and Thunder Wave can hurt the enemy team. Fury Swipes + Metronome is another interesting novelty. Counters Standard physical walls like Metagross, Bronzong, and Skarmory are going to slow him down a lot, though Thunder can help with the latter. However, if your Ambipom isn't a physical attacker, then the only major threats to it are those that wil outspeed and OHKO it, like Scarf Heracross, Scarf Garchomp, Dugrio, Weavile, Alakazam, Jolteon, and Aerodactyl. Fortunately, there is no pokemon that is a legitimate counter to both variants (Sweeper and BP) of Ambipom, so your opponent will need to guess the first time they see it. Opinion A little ugly, but perfect for those that like to have control over the game. In Soviet Russia, monkey spanks you!

Introduction
![]() The beautiful Vaporeon has been with us since RBY, and has steadily been a standard in play. Each generation gives it new tricks, from BP of GSC, to Wish of RSE, and now it can play with Yawn thanks to DP. Moving on... Movesets Wish Vaporeon @ Leftovers Bold: 188 hp, 252 def, 68 sp atk Wish Surf Ice Beam/Toxic Protect/Yawn/Hidden Power Elec The Wish variant of Vaporeon that's very easy to keep alive. Surf is obligatory STAB. Ice Beam provides dragon coverage, though Toxic combos well with Protect if you like stalling. HP Elec gives it something on Gyarados, and Yawn is similar to Roar in concept. BP Vaporeon @ Leftovers Relaxed (0 speed IV): 188 hp, 252 def, 68 sp atk Surf/Ice Beam/Hidden Power Elec Substitute/Acid Armor Baton Pass Ice Beam/Wish Team supporting Vaporeon. The attacking move you give it determines what it can and can't kill. HP Elec for Gyara and his fellow waters. Surf for general coverage. Ice Beam for dragons and grasses. Choice Specs Vaporeon @ Choice Specs Modest: 252 sp atk, 188 def, 68 hp Surf Ice Beam Hidden Power Elec Shadow Ball This kind of defeats the purpose of Vaporeon, but it's good for a surprise and makes use of its excellent sp atk. Shadow Ball is filler to round off the set and isn't used much. (P)Hazer Vaporeon @ Leftovers Bold: 188 hp, 252 def, 68 sp atk Roar/Haze/Yawn Surf Protect Ice Beam/Hidden Power Elec This thing scouts and chases out potential threats. Which move you use to shut them down is your choice. Just be aware that Roar, Yawn, and Haze are all different in application. Other Options Rest-talk is a very possible option for it if you simply want it to wall up and down. Charm and Tickle give you something to slow down physical attackers further. A Curse-Waterfall-BP variant could be interesting. Fake Tears and Life Orb could work in the Choice Set, and perhaps Rain Dance as well. Helping hand is obvious for doubles. Counters Taunt will really mess up supporting Vaporeon, and if we're dealing with Bulkygyara, you've got nothing on it without Hidden Power Elec. His fellow bulky waters can generally have stall wars forever with him. Heavy-hitting grass pokemon like Tangrowth and Celebi can hurt Vaporeon really badly, and the latter can take Ice Beams. Vap has no business against the likes of Raikou or Electivire. Opinion Somehow this thing just makes me feel more secure when it's in my team. I wouldn't use it as anything but a BPer for this reason alone. Well, that, and Wish pass couples with Ambipom. This message was edited by WiseLugia on Oct 06 2007.

Introduction
![]() I must start off by saying thank you. Thank you, DP, for giving us Kriketune. Its potential for speedy death delivery is unbelievable, especially with the proper trainer support. Best used in groups, because they're awesome like that. 77 hp / 85 atk / 51 def / 55 sp atk / 51 sp def / 65 spd Movesets Quickitune Kricketune @ Wide Lens Speed Boost Adamant: 252 atk, 252 spd, 6 hp Spore Swords Dance Megahorn Stone Edge Imma eat joo! >=O Fake set, btw. Swordsman Kricketune @ Salac Berry Swarm Adamant: 252 atk, 252 spd, 6 hp Substitute/Endure/Sing Swords Dance X-scissor Brick Break/Aerial Ace This guy is so cool. I mean, he has Swords for arms, so this set is obvious. Once he's taken enough damage, he becomes faster and capable of assassinating like no other. Aerial Ace lets him take out his bug bretheren where Brick Break can give him the edge on fatties like Wigglytuff. If you're a gambling player, letting him Sing his sweet song is also something to think about. Other Options Screech is something to think about if you want to let his allies have fun with the opponent instead. Perish Song sentences them to death or makes them run away like a little girl. Protect can let him scout from the shadows. And, of course, there's Double Team, because Kricketune plays dirty. Counters Everything likes to think it can counter Kricketune, but whether they do or not is up to the player. Opinion Fighter, Singer, Dancer. It's a triple threat! In fact, this scares people so much that you'll likely never see it. This message was edited by WiseLugia on Oct 06 2007.

The Best Dragon Alive
![]() Introduction Salamence, the dragon pokemon, has also been very popular in the current generation. Salamence boasts a wide spectrum of offensive moves. Here are its base stats: Hp 95/Attack 135/Defense 80/Sp. Atk 110/Sp. Defense 80/Speed 100 Movesets SpecsMence Salamence @ Choice Specs Intimidate Modest: 252 Sp. Atk/ 252Speed/ 6 Hp -Draco Meteor -Dragon Pulse -Flamethrower -Hydro Pump Start out with Draco Meteor to put a dent in the opponents starter pokemon. Hydro Pump can OHKO most fire, rock, and grounds. Flamethrower covers the steels that resist the dragon moves SpecsMence has. Dragon Pulse is for a finishing sweep. CBMence Salamence @ Choice Band Intimidate Lonely: 252 Atk/ 252 Speed/ 6 Hp -Dragon Claw -Earthquake -Fire Blast -Stone Edge/Rock Slide With Dragon Claw now being physical instead of special from the RSE generation, it can provide some pretty good STAB. That can be replaced with Dragon Rush, but then again with Dragon Rush's 75% Accuracy, it'snot recommended. Fire Blast is for Skarmory and friends. The last slot is obligatory rock move. Power or accuracy is up to the player. DDMence Salamence @ Leftovers/ Life Orb Intimidate Adamant: 120 Hp/ 136 Speed/ 252 Atk -Dragon Dance -Dragon Claw -Earthquake -Rock Slide/ Stone Edge The last slot is the same more Accuracy or more power, but it can be replaced by Fire Blast or Flamethrower (In this case, use Lonely). Dragon Dance plus a STAB'd Dragon Claw can mean trouble for most teams. Other Options Other options include Brick Break to kill Tyranitar, and Normal types like Blissey. Crunch also is a good move to kill the likes of Cresselia. Opinion Overall Salamence is a good pokemon as it has many physical and special moves. It also has high Sp. Atk that overthrows Garchomp's Sp. Atk, and Salamence also has some decent Speed. This message was edited by predator2991 on Oct 06 2007. This message was edited by predator2991 on Oct 06 2007.

re: Pokemon Studies Compedium and Index (Update regarding reservations) |
![]() Introduction Medicham came around in Ruby and Sapphire, its trait Pure Power is what has made it such a great Pokemon, even with the loss of Physical Shadow Ball coming into Diamond and Pearl. Base Stats 60 HP / 60 Atk / 75 Def / 60 Sp.Atk / 75 Sp.Def / 80 Spd Movesets Choice Bander Medicham @ Choice Band Trait: Pure Power Adamant/Jolly: 252Atk/252Spd/6HP -Hi Jump Kick -Psycho Cut -Ice Punch -Thunderpunch Medicham is great at using Choice Band, combined with Pure power its attack reaches enormous heights. Depending on what you want to out speed, you can choose between Adamant and Jolly natures. To make up for the loss of Shadow Ball, the elemental punches have become physical and are used to give the max amount of type coverage and to scare off old counters. Unfortunately Medicham still has no super effective on ghost types. Although High Jump kick is risky and can back fire hugely, when it hits it is truly deadly. Choice Scarfer Medicham @ Choice Scarf Trait: Pure Power Adamant/Jolly: 252Atk/252spd/6HP -Hi Jump Kick -Psycho Cut -Ice Punch -Thunderpunch The point of this set is to out speed basically everything with Jolly and use its Pure Power to sweep hopeful stopping anything from getting a shot on it. Adamant nature can still out speed Sceptile and Alakazam but has more power. The nature is again up to preference. Sub-Puncher Medicham @ Salac Berry Trait: Pure Power Adamant / Jolly: 252Atk/252Spd/6HP -Substitute -Focus Punch / Reversal -Psycho Cut -Ice Punch Use Psycho Cut and Ice Punch to sweep anyone you can, and when you think necessary substitute. Hopefully the substitute will survive and allow you to hit with Focus Punch, otherwise you can sub down to 25% HP and gain the benefits from the Salac Berry. Using reversal works well with this set also. After substituting down to 1%, it is deadly. Beware of Sandstorm if you try this though. Other Options If it was more bulky it could make use of Bulk Up, Calm Mind or Meditate and possibly Baton Pass, but this is not the case so there are few other options to use, and those that there are would lower Medicham's type coverage. You could attempt Psych up and if you intend to use Reversal on the last set, possibly Endure. Of course if you are scared of Hi Jump Kick, replace it with Brick Break. Counters Creselia is the best counter to Medicham as it can use Reflect and wall you with its high HP and Defence. It can also hit you with Thunder Wave, making it a lot easier to swap into and counter. Will-o-Wisp hurts Medicham like any Physcial sweeper. There are few other counters thanks to Medicham's type coverage. Opinion Medicham may be limited with it's low HP, giving it little cahnce of setting up properly with moves like Bulk up, but it has become one of the the best Choice Band users and can pack a painful blow to any team. ![]() I wonder if Japanese children learn their English Alphabet this way. Anyway, Unown made its mysterious appearance in GSC, and is one of the more entertaining novelty pokemon. 48 hp / 72 atk / 48 def / 72 sp atk / 48 sp def / 48 spd Movesets Choice... Monocle Unown @ Choice Specs Levitate Modest: 252 sp atk, 252 spd, 6 hp Hidden Power Something Alright, so this is what we're looking at. Ice can one-shot the likes of Salamence and two-shot Groudon. Fighting can two-shot Ttar. Fire can take down Forretress and Scizor. Though, it should really be playing around with its fellow NUs, which it can actually do fairly decent against because it's unpredictable. Ridge Racer Unown @ Choice Scarf Levitate Modest: 252 sp atk, 252 spd, 6 hp Hidden Power Flying Any non-scarfed adamant Heracross dies to this. Breloom too, if Unown can take a Mach Punch. Other Options lol Counters Any and all things that can take a hit. Grumpig, Blissey, etc. Opinion Most of the fun of Unown lies in the nicknames and combinations of it that you use. eg: iRock (Unown I) @ Choice Specs Levitate Modest: 252 sp atk, 252 spd, 6 hp Hidden Power Rock And so forth. It's neat. It's also great at evading hits from Groudon, apparently. I'd give it a shot for that reason alone.

Introduction
![]() Gastrodon, the lovable sea slug, was brought to us in DP and is probably most known for its unique cry. It shares typing with Swampert and Quagsire, though it's better off being compared to the latter. Movesets Dedicated special wall Gastrodon @ Leftovers Sticky Hold Calm/Sassy: 252 hp, 252 sp def, 6 sp atk Amnesia Recover Surf/Yawn/Muddy Water Ice Beam/Yawn A pretty simple setup. Where Quagsire has a better ability, Gastrodon has Recover, which was a trade in its favor as far as I'm concerned. Amnesia up and Recover off damage when you need to. Yawn is an option if you want it to be doing something more. Dedicated physical wall/tank Gastrodon @ Leftovers Sticky Hold Impish/Relaxed: 252 hp, 252 def, 6 atk Curse Recover Earthquake/Waterfall/Yawn Stone Edge/Earthquake/Yawn Same basic premise as the previous set, except this one is on the physical end. You can feel free to take some EVs out of defense to give it a bit more punch in its offense, but I believe it needs all the durability it can get. Earthquake-Stone Edge is the most preferable coverage for offense, though Yawn is there for the same purposes as before. Other Options Stockpile is somewhat of a gimmick, but since it increases both defenses up to 3 times, it could make for a decent dual wall in the UU environment. Body Slam can provide paralysis support for a team. It can provide Rain Dance if you want to go down that route with something. Gastrodon can Rest-Talk fairly well. There's Attract if you're a fan of chance. Lastly, there's Counter and Mirror Coat, which could make for a nice, surprising OHKO against a bigger pokemon. Counters Anything that brings down Swampert will bring down Gastrodon, most notably Tangrowth and Celebi. That's not to say those are Gastrodon's only problems, though. Considering its rather low stats, the likes of Heracross and other somewhat durable heavy hitters can freely switch into Gastrodon and give it a world of hurt. Opinion I will call him Squishy. He will be mine. He will be my Squishy. *cough* Yeah, anyway, Gastrodon is a solid player in the UU environment, but it's not one of those pokemon that will stand strong in OU anytime soon. Nonetheless, it's enjoyable, if for nothing more than the cry. This message was edited by WiseLugia on Oct 07 2007.

re: Pokemon Studies Compedium and Index (Update on rules again...) |
![]() Introduction Arcanine has been a popular pokemon since the first generation of Pokemon games, but has never quite been strong enough to compare with the top competitive (Non Uber) Pokemon, causing it to be stuck in borderline. Some still consider it a semi-legend, and in Diamond and Pearl it has gained more options to use in battle. Base Stats 90 HP / 110 Atk / 80 Def / 100 Sp.Atk / 80 Sp.Def / 95 Spd Movesets: Physical Arcanine Arcanine @ Choice Band / Choice Scarf Trait: Intimidate Adamant/Jolly: 252Atk/252Spd/6HP -Extremespeed -Iron Tail -Flare Blitz / Fire Fang -Thunder Fang Depending if you want more speed or more power, you can change around the items and natures on this set. Arcanines high base attack means that even if you choose a speedy set it will still be able to do some good damage. Flare Blitz is incredibly strong with stab on Arcanine, and will even do good damage to types resisting it. Extremespeed is a move that might make you consider the more powerful set, as you will get to attack first and it is still a great attack. Iron Tail helps to hit rock types which resist all other moves and Thunder Fang is for use on water types(Even though it would be smart to swap out when you see most of these), and can cause paralyse or flinch. Special Arcanine Arcanine @ Choice Specs / Choice Scarf Trait: Intimidate Modest/Timid: 252Sp.Atk/252Spd/6HP -Dragon Pulse -Flamethrower -Overheat -Hidden Power(Grass) / Extreme Speed Arcanine has got a better special move pool then physical, but it has less power. The main type coverage comes from Dragon Pulse and Flamethrower, these moves are vital to Arcanines special set. Another up side to using Special Arcanine is that Hidden Power is now available for use and help with even more type coverage, water and ground in this case. Extremespeed may not be a special move, but attack first with it can always give Arcanine the edge. Overheat is used to take advantage of Choice Specs and stab and is sure to do some great damage, even if it forces you to swap after. Mixed Arcanine Arcanine @ Life Orb Trait: Flash Fire Naive: 230Atk/80Sp.Atk/200Spd -Overheat -Flare Blitz -Dragon Pulse / Extremespeed -Hidden Power (Fighting/Grass) This set is great to swap into a fire attack and if the opponent tries and wall you, you should still have an attack in your arson to hit them with some damage. Flare Blitz attacks special walls, while Overheat can cause chaos for the opponent. Dragon Pulse is for type coverage and as said before, Extremespeed is always handy. Sunny Arcanine Arcanine @ Life Orb Trait: Flash Fire Modest/Timid: 252 Sp.Atk/252Spd/6HP -Sunny Day -Flamethrower / Overheat -Solar Beam -Dragon Pulse / Extreme Speed / Overheat This set makes use of Arcanines trait "Flash Fire" instead of "Intimidate". After putting up Sunny Day, Arcanine can do some extreme damage with Overheat or Flamethrower and can unleash Solar Beams on water types. Dragon Pulse adds type coverage and Extreme Speed is always good. Other Options Some support moves which can be used on Arcanine are Howl, Agility and Will-o-Wisp. You can use Fire Fang to substitute Flare Blitz on any set if you are worried about recoil. Crunch is another good physical move Arcanine has, but usually other moves provide better type coverage. Counters Arcanine has got great type coverage and speed, and does not have many major counters, but if you don't have Hidden Power Grass on your set, Swampert can counter Arcanine well as well as other bulky waters like Milotic, even with thunder fang. Fire types can counter Arcanine taking advantage of walling a fire attack and also taking advantage of Sunny Day if you are using that particular set. Opinion Flare Blitz has been a great addition to Arcanine this generation but still doesn't give it a big enough boost for OU. Thanks to Stealth Rocks Earthquake is being used a lot more and this does not help Arcanine when you want to swap it in. Over all Arcanine is still a good solid fire type with the ability to use both physical, special and mixed sets, making it hard to predict and a solid BL Pokemon. Introduction
![]() I'm not quite sure when Grumpig learned how to use the Chaos Emeralds, but it joined the Pokemon ranks in RSE. While it's doomed to be UU for the rest of its life, there are a few things about it that make it quite unique. 80 hp / 45 atk / 65 def / 90 sp atk / 110 sp def / 80 spd Movesets Super Sonic (CMpig) Grumpig @ Leftovers Thick Fat Timid: 252 HP, 236 Spd, 20 Sp Def Substitute Calm Mind Psychic Shadow Ball/Energy Ball Pretty simple setup. After a few CMs, this thing becomes a sweeping machine practically immune to special attacks. The last slot is open to personal preference. Shadow Ball disposes of his fellow Psychics and hits ghosts with a bit more force. Energy Ball is for the likes of Gastrodon, Quagisire, Crawdaunt, and is still able to hit Lunatone and Solrock for significant damage. Super Tails (Support Pig) Grumpig @ Choice Scarf Thick Fat Calm: 252 hp, 252 sp def, 6 def Trick Thunder Wave Psywave Reflect/Light Screen These moves are too cool to pass up. Trick can completely ruin an enemy pokemon by restricting its moves (you want to grab Leftovers with Trick). Thunder Wave is great paralysis support for your main sweeper. Reflect or Light Screen furthers Pig's durability and also allows for easier switching for the rest of your party. Psywave is neat in that it's similar to Seismic Toss, only the damage varies. More often than not, it's doing over 100. Super... Knuckles? (SpecsPig) Grumpig @ Choice Specs Thick Fat/Own Tempo Timid: 252 spd, 252 sp atk, 6 hp Psychic Shadow Ball Energy Ball Trick Similar to Trick Alakazam. You can either attempt to mess up an opposing wall with the choice item, or simply hold onto it and sweep. The purpose of each move should be clear to you by now. Eggman (Rest-Talker) Grumpig @ Leftovers Thick Fat Calm: 252 hp, 156 def, 96 sp def Rest Sleep Talk Psychic Shadow Ball/Energy Ball/Toxic/Calm Mind The bulkiest Grumpig you're going to get. Shadow Ball and Energy Ball already have a clear purpose. Toxic lets it face off with walls that don't have Rest. Calm Mind can serve to make it bulkier, but then it has very limited coverage. Other Options Focus Blast can offer a harder hit against Darks and normals, so feel free to use it if you feel like you can take a risk. Counter and Mirror Coat are awesome on Pig with appropriate setups. Charge Beam is an option for a secondary attacking move so that you can abandon Calm Mind for more versatility, and it hits Pig's water enemies fairly well still. Grass Knot is better than Energy Ball if you want to use Pig in OU. Psych Up is there to steal other Pokemon's buffs. Counters While Grumpig can mess up many attempts at walling with a well-timed Trick, Hypno can scout and start Seismic Tossing away. After they've seen a few of your moves, they can take the appropriate measures for the kill, be it switching in a hard physical hitter while you sleep, or simply bringing something like Sharpedo in on Psychic to follow with a swift kill. In OU, stay far, far away from Heracross, Tyranitar, and the like, because you have no prayer unless you're running Counter-Sash. Opinion Spider Pig, Spider Pig, does whatever a Spider Pig does... Anyway, Grumpig is neat, despite not being able to swing from a web. This is mostly accentuated by the fact that nobody is going to know what to do against it, having never seen it in battle in their life. All hail Super Pig.
