SUBJECT |
|
Firstly, most aspects of Xbox Live are working for me. However, whenever I try and play co-op Gears of War, hosting or joining, I get an error message. After a lot of testing and experimentation, I have concluded that it is because my NAT is set to moderate, and I don't know how to set it to Open. I have an iConnect Access 624 broadband router and a wired ethernet connection to my Xbox 360.
Is it a problem with Gears of War co-op that everyone faces, or is it a NAT problem? Or possibly something else I have over-looked? This message was edited by HBK619 on May 30 2008. -------------------

I don't get any error messages specifically about NAT problems, but it's just what I have deduced is wrong. My router isn't listed as one of the fully Xbox Live compatible routers on xbox.com, so maybe that is why I can't change it?

its what ever kind of router your using has very limited compatability with the 360 i have the same problem so i've researched it a bit, You couldget very expensive fiber optic cable (lol!) but if you dont want to do that you can do this, go around the house and turn off everything that has a connection to the internet to incease the chances of getting the best connection your router can get, if this doesnt help get a new router/internet service provider

How is going fiber going to fix a NAT problem?
I had the same problem a while back. First, you need to set your xbox to use a static IP address. Just go in and change the one thats currently using to being the one it will always use. I then went and set the IP address my xbox was using to DMZ (de-militarized zone). It basically lets that IP address pass through any security/firewall protection on your router. That cleared up my NAT problems, and let me join every game. ------------------- quote TurMoiL911

quote the slayerThat's what I was wondering... quote the slayerHow did you do this? I went into Network Settings on the SYSTEM blade, but all I saw was having an automatically assigned IP, or manually assigning an IP. Where is the option to change it to static? quote the slayerOnce again, exactly how do I do this? -------------------

I've had the same problem trying to join Halo 3 matches. It only happens occasionally but it's pretty damn annoying .

Besides all the anecdotal support, and the fact that this is not a meeting of people who have had the same problem, does anyone actually know of a way to solve the problem?

Get a router that is listed on the Xbox 360 website as compatable. My boyfriend had the same problem and bought a new router, and now everything works fine.
He called Xbox Support and that's what they said to do, so I'm not sure if there is away around purchasing a new router. -------------------

Damn. I wouldn't mind purchasing a new one if it was completely detrimental to my Xbox Live experience, but because it's just the odd game or two where it interferes, purchasing a new router seems like a bit of a waste. Thanks for the suggestion though.
