360 Disk Cracker

My latest 360 seems to have had a nasty habit of actually cracking my 360 disks. It was a bit difficult to isolate this to one console, since I have to replace several for each of the 360's I maintain. With the release of Halo 3 though, I was finally able to determine it was my own 360 that was the culprit and not handling of disks or some other element I couldn't account for. When I purchased Halo 3, the disk never went into another xbox and pretty much stayed in my 360. First it would start with random disk read errors and the game would lock up at random times. This struck me as odd as there wasn't a mark on my disk and my 360 was swapped out for a new one back around May. After having the disk for 2 weeks, a small hairline crack about 2mm was stemming out of the center of the disk. This crack had finally reached into the disk area and left me with no options to get the disk to play. Prior to this, restarting the console would result in the 360 reading the disk.
A few months prior I lost both of my Gears of War disks eventually to a much larger center crack. Since I'm pretty tight a local game store nearby, they were going to swap out my disks for me for open copies they had but all of the disks they had had similar cracks on them. Once of my disks the crack was harder to see on the bottom side as it left only a mark/imprint but looking at the top you could see the crack in almost a straight line going across. It seems to me that other people had the same issue, but perhaps they traded in/swapped out their disk, probably only to find they have the same problem happen again a short time later.
Of the approx. 40 titles on the 360 I have, only the ones published by Microsoft seem to have been affected though. I don't know if the issue relates in part to disks they press, or if it might be to these titles being played more often. I had thought perhaps it related to the title being left in and disk spin up causing the cracks, but there are other titles that are left in just as often that haven't suffered the same fate.
Currently I'm still waiting for M$ to have their home office apparently 'authorize' replacing my special edition Gears sku. Apparently their disk replacement program hasn't covered these yet.

Anyone else have cracked discs?

re: 360 Disk Cracker

I have had it. From the inner circle a crack appeared and went onto the disk would stopped it from reading and tis is caused by you pushing the disc in the case too hard OR pushing the button over and over trying to get the disc out.

One more reason which could cause this is you pulling the disc out with out pressing the button in the middle of the disc. I got mine replaced when it happened to mine.

re: 360 Disk Cracker

Right, but I didn't let anyone handle my disc save myself this time, and I only took the disc out twice while owning it. Both times I had no user loading issues. Once was to check out the extra content disc that came with the legendary set, the other was to watch a movie.

I guess a good thing is I did finally upgrade to an Elite, but in doing so I had to pay $50 extra for system price and another in store warranty hit me for another $80. Shipping my discs to M$ also was another $31.

Still I wait for my Gears discs though. M$ did replace my Halo 3, but they also requested I send in my game boxes of which I have yet to have one returned yet.

re: 360 Disk Cracker

you might have something sharp or spiky in your disc drive(might not but its worth checking) because my mate had this problem and he had a tiny piece of sharp plastic in it.

No I doubt it. None of my games or movies I play were getting scratched. I really believe there is a hardware flaw in some of the dvd drive releases.
It seems odd sometimes to see 360's sent in for RROD come back with a response that the dvd drive was replaced when the user notes they didn't feel they had a dvd drive problem to begin with.

My halo 3 has a few cracks right now and it's *bleep*ing gay.

I have an Xbox 360 Elite and I've had it since September 25, is there a way to fix this issue and is there somewhere where I can get my halo 3 disk replaced or some shit.

re: 360 Disk Cracker

You should try calling 1-800-4-MY-XBOX-SUCKS.
Well, I did receive my Halo 3 disk a couple of weeks ago and ended my personal strike yesterday and put the game in for the first time since I got it back.
Today, I played for a bit and went to take out my disc and noticed my disc is cracked again!
What the hell, 1 Day, and a cracked disc? No one handled the disc but me. This is also a newer XBOX that I had just replaced at the end of October.

I really think there is an issue with inferior disc quality from Microsoft and perhaps certain models of DVD drive they are using. This is absolutlely rediculous. I've been waiting up just to call Microsoft to start bitching. I still haven't received my 2 Gears of War discs which were fine for half a year till I bought the last 360 before this one. Also, I've never had a cracked disc before like this EVER!!!!

I'm very close to just getting rid of anything related to my crapbox and turning to a different console. The problem I have with that is nothing really appeals to me on either of the systems as much as Gears of War and I hate to have to lose money getting rid of everything. I can't see how this isn't a more widespread problem. Maybe I should trade in my 360 for another one. Won't cost me anything.
