Nope, unless you have the auto-renewal feature on.

If you used one of those 1-month Gold trials, your account will automatically change to a Silver account.

Just as long as there's no credit card attached to your account, it will not automatically renew.

If you don't want it to automatically renew, I wouldn't give Microsoft my credit card information when it comes to anything dealing with subscriptions. Like any other business, there's the fine print.

Buy the one/three month cards and use them.

HEED THIS WARNING. if you give microsoft your credit card information as part of the transaction signing up for live, it sets up autorenewal. which is a pain in the ass to turn off. and the one-month subscription will keep renewing every month, charging your credit card 8 bucks every time. after a year, you will have wasted an extra $50. it's a phenomenally bad deal.

i highly recommend the pre-paid cards. you can get the 13 month cards fairly cheap on amazon.
