I would hope you had tried at least twice before wasting your time taking it back to the store and making a fool of yourself. Being a brand new machine things like that happen upon first use.

I'm not sure which would be better as far as overheating goes, but I strongly suggest that you lay it horizontally (second picture). Standing it vertically creates a big chance that it'll scratch your discs. If it's ever tilted at all while a disc is spinning, even for a split-second, it'll leave those nasty circle scratches that will most likely corrupt some of the files.

re: Thread Ring of Death

Awww man. I just got the 3 RROD. At the moment of got a fan blowing on it and its unplugged. Im not sure whether its the console itself or the power lead. The leads got an orange light on it but my 360 flashes 3 Red Rings. It sucks to because its the half term
Any help would be appreciated,thanks.

Hmm, let's say I have a overheating problem. Obviously, I'll have to pay the $99 for repair. Now after this process, am I re-covered for the E74/RROD issues for another 3 years, just in case the problem comes up after the initial hardware repair?

@ smarti3: I think as long as the system is still within the warrenty period, it should be fine.

I would guess that you aren't covered for another 3 years, though I'm not certain. I know that once I used my warranty, I was not given another 3 years. However, since you are paying for your problem, it may be a different case, but my best guess is still leaning towards no. It's not the repair that is given a warranty, it's the 360, so it should only last 3 years from the original purchase date.

If it happened before it most likely can happen again. Depends on what happened exactly to make it RROD - if you can tell us what you think made it go haywire then we can give you suggestions on how to prevent it happening again.

1. repeatedly opening it(looking to mod)

2. It sits in between my pc an monitor on a desk in the corner which gets very hot.(must likely this one)

Left or right because i feel the best solution is cutting a whole in the xbox case that will let some heat out

re: Thread Ring of Death

OK this may seem like a stupid question but anyway:

OK I'm sending back my Xbox (RROD of course) and I was wondering if UPS will still pick it up and send it away if it is in a Royal Mail shipping box.
