A lightning strike or something may have caused the power to flash in your area for a split-second, or you may have just simply disconnected one of the cords on accident. It's unlikely that you had the legit RRoD and it simply worked again after restarting. -------------------

My friend was just gonna give me his overheated 360 for free, and I was willing to pay for the repair costs since it's marginally cheaper than buying a new one. 	Anyone had any experience with the rrod in the UK? My Xbox is going the the MicroSoft place in Frankfurt, and I'm giving itto UPS delivery tomorrow. I'm wondering how long after the MW2 release (10th) I might get it back. Also, if you send one of the old core systems in, do they repair or replace? 	My younger brother's 360 Arcade got the 3 RRoD on the 2nd Nov, just lucky it happened when it did because the extended warranty on it had only less than one month and about three weeks to go, before he would have had to pay to get it fixed, which if he had to, would have sucked ------------------- Bejeweled Penition

	I've had mine for around two years and I just got it. The thing that annoys me, though is that you lose all your save files when it does that. =[ (I can't be bothered sending it off for repairs and would rather just buy a new console. I was playing a DVD and then suddenly it beeped and just stopped. So I turned it off and on and it worked fine again and started loading the DVD and then beeped and stopped again. 	While this may be bad advice to those whose 'boxes are still under warranty, those without one or are out of it or somehow voided it and don't have the scratch to get a new Xbox or don't want to wait the weeks it takes to reapair this may help if you're having trouble, or possibly even some preventative measures. Spoiler: 3 RRoD I've been having a bit of trouble on separate occasions as of late with my Xbox and did some research on the problems and found, in general, the cause for the 3 RRoD is primarily due to a combination of 3 things: Lead-free solder on their motherboards, the way in which they anchor the heat sinks to both the CPU and GPU, and the way the clamps anchoring the heat sinks allow the motherboard to flex during heating and cooling. This 'tri-factor' starts to wear the solder on the processors and some may eventually break under the flex of the motherboard during normal operation. People have found out the problem is due to the 'X' clamps on both heat sinks, which puts uneven pressure on the processors, and have made multiple repair guides online, most notably some good ones on youtube, such as this X clamp fix: Part I, Part II, and Part III. While the fix voids the warranty and requires some tricky parts to obtain, it is said to be a permanent fix, (I've done it a couple months ago and no problems out of it since... no related problems, anyways) and thus a good route for people out of inexpensive options. A good idea after doing this fix is to get either a case mod with a large fan on there, or a fan upgrade for the existing case fans to help keep it cooler. Or just leave the case apart and put a floor fan on it and just blow the dust out occasionally. Spoiler: 1 RRoD, or E-74 Now, this can be brought on by one of many, many things. To really narrow it down use this guide if you're experiencing the one flashing red light in the lower right-hand quadrant. In about 90% of the E-74 errors it's either the Scaler/HANA/ANA chip, or the AV cable. The purpose of the ANA chip is to allow the 360 to render images other than it's native resolution, which I forget at the moment. (720p?) You'll know when your Scaler chip is having problems when you start to get graphical errors on screen, such as black or green pixels while you're playing. After you restart you may be greeted by the flashing red light you've come to love, or not have the problem again for a while. One method of fixing this (the one I'm currently using to much success) is the penny trick, which pretty much just keeps pressure on the chip to (crudely) compensate for the weak connection between it and the motherboard. This happened to me the other night and I have to admit I had to keep at this method for a good hour before finally pulling out the big W and being able to play again. Honestly, sometimes this thing is more work than its worth but while it still is working party on. If none of those two problems cover what you have then there's a link to a guide that covers pretty much any problem you can have with a 360 in the second spoiler box, its a life saver in a pinch. ------------------- "The Nellie, a cruising yawl, swung to her anchor without a flutter of the sails, and was at rest. 	Just got the RROD (1 Light), the E74 error T~T. Got it a few days later after getting CoD MW2, which i didn't play all that much. Oddly enough though, in the MW 2 forums i've read that alot of people who've gotten the game ended up having RROD issues. Furture reading into the issue i found some one saying that new disc into the 360 can become some what harmful to it. If this is true, and say i send my xbox to be fixed, would it just happen again a few days later after playing MW 2 again?
