Ok, so heres the deal, my brother was playing gear of war today on my 360 and got the ring of death (the one with 3 red lights lit up, hardware failure right?) anyway I restarted it and like 5 minutes later it happened again. So I told him to leave it off for a while. So I went and played hockey while he played his Wii all afternoon then I came back and wanted to see if it would happen again. So I played gears for like an hour and nothing happened. I always thought that if you got the ring of death that your 360 wouldn't even start up anymore. Anyway, has this happened to anyone else before. I was going to call xbox support but I don't want to call them if its working fine now.

"Hardware failure" also means "Cannot read disc" or a sudden disconnect fo the video cable can also sometimes produce this result.

Yeah, I got the "Red Ring" yesterday. The three-quarters circle- the bad one.

I think I hit a power surge, because it just cut off and the lights dimmed.

When I turned it back on, there was the ring.

I then shut it off and restarted it.

Works fine now.

Same thing happen too me. 1 day later l was calling Microsoft.

I've had a ¼ RROD and ¾ RROD, but it's still alive and well.

Actually there was something wrong with the transformers on my road today. Maybe they caused a power surge but I'm doubtful that was the cause. Oh well, since Microsoft extended its warranty until a year I have until June I guess. Think they will still fix it if I don't have the receipt or the box? Someone kind of threw them out when they were cleaning my room, I was trying to kept them. And disconnecting the video cable gives you the full ring, not the 3/4 ring.

Maltby man you don't need the receipt, they never even asked for mine, all they do is ask for the purchase date. And since you got yours the same day as mine I can just tell you. I might be sending mine back to since it ate my NHL 07 disc like my GoW disc.

Oh and yes, we did have a power surge in town today, although the brick is supposed to be a "surge protector" I am not sold on that. I assume it was just the power surge.

Things that cause the "Drea Ring":

1. Sudden change in power levels, resulting in a low power non-use state to inform the user that continueing usage would be dangerouse (1/4)

2. Problems reading disc, causing irregular drive usage (3/4)

3. Internal failure resulting in memory problems (the BAD 3/4)
