question about wireless connection to XBL.. |
|
to make a long story short, i was wanting to hook my 360 into my wireless network and i have a small Linksys Wireless G network adapter that picks up a pretty strong/reliable internet signal. that's how i get internet.. no modem or anything.
i can't run an ethernet cable out of it and into the xbox because it isn't a router and doesn't have any connections. all it uses is a USB cord to connect it to my computer. my parents have a Linsksy Wireless G Router with 4 or 5 hookups for ethernet. they aren't even using it and they gave it to me. they used it to hook into their modem and it created an access point for my sister to connect to the internet wirelessly when she lived there. now that i have it, my question is how can i use it to get internet to my 360 so i can get on X-Box live? is it capable of receiving a signal or is it used strictly for use with a modem to set up a wireless access point? i have another option, which is to get the Microsoft wireless internet adapter. i've heard it works fantastic but it's very pricey ($100) for a tiny little cable. i don't need to spend any more money at all. i don't know much about this stuff.. anyone who can help me, i'd greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance. __________________ This message was edited by swiftcelgts on May 27 2007. yea
it might be unfashionable or watever but just get a 50 ft ethernet cable. Connect this cable from yo 360 to ur router. It is a more sensible solution then a 100 dollar wifi connector thingy You also might hafta go through the process of creating an access point. Thats what i had to do to get my ds to start working w/ my router. Just research it. btw a 50 ft ethernet cable is like 15 bucks on average. If you need only like a ten foot one, you can get it probably for like five bucks or even less maybe

yea but sony actually cares about its customers unlike microsoft so sony (for yo convinence) included blu-ray, wifi, and a shitload of other multimedia functions. Wifi is included w/ the ps3, but for xbox it costs 100 bucks

ok i don't have a modem or anything. the router is only used to setup a wireless access point when it's connected to a modem, so it's useless to me. i'm gonna just have to get a wireless adapter..
i have the linksys one which works great on my computer, but i don't know how well it will work on the 360. -------------------

quote tracemastaxIt's not that they care about their customers more, they included those features so that the ps3 could compete directly with a desktop PC (aka MSFT)

i couldn't make the 360 recognize the Linksys WIA no matter what i did.. including entering in the IP address, subnet mask, gateway, etc.
