I'm getting one soon, but all of this talk about them breaking so often is really putting a downer on it.

Please say if you think I should get one, and why/why not.

Newer and improved versions of the 360 are now out. So it reduces things like what you have been hearing. However all consoles break from time to time. It may be the case that this is more so with the 360 but as i said newer versions are now out that are improved and don't crash as much. I bought a launch console and it is still going strong...touch wood

If you like the games, and plan to use Xbox Live a lot, like the controller and all that, with the fear of hardware problems being the only thing holding you back, then go for it. If you're really scared, which you shouldn't be, do what I did and take out a 3 year warranty. Don't fret too much, most of the problems were with the original batches, which did malfunction a bit more than expected, but then turned into a vicious cycle as people heard they over-heated, bought dodgey 3rd party intercoolers, which wrecked their consoles, and increased the rate of hardware problems. Really though, it's highly exaggerated, and as long as you have a 3 year warranty, with no questions asked replacement, you're laughing.

Get it because of Live. It's titles this year are quite good, too. Mass Effect, BioShock, and if you're into it, Halo 3, just to name a few.

You can always purchase at least a one-year warranty if you are worried about it breaking down. Haha, one post every minute

The 360 is a buggy piece of crap that constantly fails and needs repair. This is coming from a guy that has only xbox consoles and a pc.

Microsoft rushed it out into the market so they could get some sales before the ps3 came out which they predicted would outsell the 360. Now it's buggy, lame and has horrible heating issues.

I've had my Xbox 360 since December '06 and I haven't had a single problem with it. I'm an avid Xbox/Xbox Live player, spending between 1-8 hours on my Xbox per day, most of the time in a single session. 6 months of heavy play hasn't even had the console show any signs of degredation, so I really wouldn't worry about the Xbox 360's past problems if you're buying a new one. ^^

I've had my 360 for a couple years now and haven't had any major problems, so it can vary, you shouldn't have any troubles if you get a new one. :\

Elites are supposed to do better now. mine doesnt get all that warm after playing for a while.

Didn't it just come out over a year ago?

As stated before if you get a 360 now it is much less likely to break down than the 360's of launch. You will be backed by a 1 year warranty if you get it new. I really don't find it to be that big of a risk.
