would you recomend this game i have played number 2 and i have to say it was awesome (even if the graphics were bad)

Definitely a good game, one of my favourites in fact. I could always build a civilisation, watch the fall of pretty much every empire, and I'd never get tired of it

Get the Gold Edition (try eBay) because you also get the expansions (BtS is the greatest expansion known the man)

I just bought this game today. The Gold Edition does NOT come with Beyond the Sword, it comes with Warlords.

OMG I wasted so much time on this game it's just nuts!!! I am so scared to get back on it right now because I'm afraid I'll get sucked back in again.

Civ III and IV (haven't played the earlier ones) are both really addicting... my laptop can't really keep up in the later stages of this game though.

The worst turn-based game I have ever seen. Installed it and, having won civ-1 thousands of times, decided to play. The problems began with the land choice. Playing on earth is for some reasons forbidden. Leaders are painted unnatural (or they should have been comics?). First place for city - it never happened to be of any good. AI is too strong and it is impossible to compete with: my unit alweays dies from 1 or 2blow from the same enemy unit (if I have warrior, enemy has warrior, enemy won't get any harm and will destroy my warrior immediately: note that it is the early phase, no upgrades of units at all. The funny thing, my lvl3 warrior weas destroyed by an single lvl1 warrior when cinditions were equal - enemy had no bonuses to defense). Needless to say, AI build towns and units at least 5 times quicker than me. I managed to build 1 town and 2 units - enemy managed to build 3 towns and some 6 units (at least I have seen 6). Conditions in land and resources would always favor enemy.
The fun with the cities: no option to produce nothing. No, you should produce anything.
Technology tree is lame. Tons of useless things like "religion". It gives virtually nothing and requires one turn of anarchy. Senseless invention.
The player is left to himself when trying to understand the so called "technology tree". It is overpacked with useless things and things one need are too well hidden. Having a chariot is now somewhat you may fford at the end of the middle ages.
Lousy, worthless game. I spent some 20 hours googling, reading and trying to play. I gave up - this is not playable and it is impossible to win unless one uses cheats (like give all technologies and let any item be built within 1 turn).

this game has kept me in its little box of gamers for ages so yes its a good game

I love this game, hours and hours of entertainment.

have you lost your mind

I never updated to doing Civ IV because I loved Civ II, mostly because I loved playing that game and found it pretty addictive. I'm wondering if they managed to keep the same sort of charm which Civ II had in Civ IV, or if it had gone downhill at all.

What major changes have they done to the game. I heard that religion and megacorporations now play a part to some extent, but how does diplomacy work? Has it become anymore indepth in II? Or city structures and such, do they tend to fall under the same culture or military setup?

it has changed from the previous games it has got better but yeah some people like and don't like the changes but what helped the game was its second expasion Civilization beyond the sword
