Can some one please tell me how to shoot down te fighters on the firast mission. They go by way too fast.

Is there a way to put a LOCK on the target and then shoot it ?

you have to try and anticipate where enemy planes are going to go so you can get in behind them. Try looking at the radar more to find out which direction enemy jets are facing. Don't bother using machine guns until you're a bit more experienced.
You can get a missile lock and your targeting reticule will turn red and you'll hear a 'tone'. When this happens fire your missiles.

To get right behind a fighter, move directly toward it when you see it first blip onto your radar. Then as soon as the plane gets boxed in on your HUD, slow your plane down. Depending on the plane you're flying, you'll have to determine how much to slow down, because what will happen is that the oncoming enemy will break off to one side, but if you timed the decrease of your airspeed properly, you can break too and end up right up on his six within gun range. I've got this technique down to where I can take out one plane with guns before any of the others even start firing their missles at me. It takes a steady hand and plenty of practice though, so be patient. On the downside it takes some fun out of the game, because you can anticipate the enemy pilot's exact moves. On the plus side, you can get through boring, repetitve missions rather quickly.
