Nope, as long as it is the same person, it doesnt matter.

I just leveled up my character a lot, and then faced everybody with him. It was a lot easier too. When you get to the bigger matches, turn power shots off, it really helps.

It does?? Good to know. But I think I'll use Donkey Kong since I beat a lot of people with him so I don't have to beat those people again...

To check, always go to the exhibition stats to see. I ended up beating a few people twice before realizing it.

It can be just anybody. As long as you beat everyone else on Pro Difficulty with the same person in Singles, it doesn't matter.

Oh, okay, good. I was starting to freak out there! The reason being: I had beaten a lot of the people with Donkey Kong. I was worried that I would have to start all over. Thank goodness I don't!!

Also, if I can remember right, it helps in other ways to use your character, on account of after each match you gain EXP points.

It have to beat everybody on Pro Difficulty, any other difficulty and it won't work, did you beat them on Pro, or a different difficulty.

I beat them on Pro. I think you have to beat them with one of your created characters....That totally sucks...

Wow, I guess that you do. I went ahead and did it with my character because I was used to him, but I didn't know that you have do it with him.

Hmm, oh well. Guess I gotta level up my character... *sniff* Time to start all over from the begining...
