Everything?? Ok. Notice: .hack//GU NEVER mentions any characters or story events from any previous .hack installments, except //Roots.
The .hackers and Aura were such great popular legends, yet barely anyone in //GU even acknowledges they ever existed! I mean, if they had ANY recognition for the past, they should've instantly been able to point out Azure Kite as bearing resemblance to that kid who basically saved the online world a few years back.

That must be the number one thing that pisses me off about //GU. I mean, damn... the game gets a makeover, and everyone forgets their damn history.

..Memory flashback in the Hulle Grans Cathedral.. Shino.. something to the effect of 'They say there used to be a statue of a girl here'..

I don't completely remeber but Aura and a good chunk of the events that happened were written into R:2's backstory as well I think

And a good chunk of the player base didn't continue on to R:2 due to the loss of their character data. Those who did, might not have known anything about the .hackers

Plus the .hackers were written into the game's backstory, like LotT said. They were only said to have completed The Worlds 'Final Mystery' or whatever.

Point. But why is Shino the only one who remembers only one of (if not THE) most important characters in the .hack verse?

That was in //LotT, back in World:R1. Nobody even remembers who the .hackers are in R2!

Let me put it this way.

The .hackers have been written into R:1's backstory by the time of LotT. Already the belief that the .hackers were real is starting to fade. Shugo mentions in the first chapter how far-fetched the story sounded, saying that it was hard to believe that players in an online game affected the real world.

Now before you go off saying how the saved The World, you have to remember that CCCorp was attempting to cover the Twilight up. For all we know, normal players had no idea that The World was in any danger at all. Sure players were disapearing, but people drop out of online games all the time. What's to say the Lost Ones weren't doing the same in their eyes?

Jump a bit into the future, with R:2. The original back story of The World R:1 didn't carry over, meaning that if people already didn't believe in the .hackers, then all memories of them are essentially gone.

As for why no one remembers the important characters, I've just explained the .hackers. As for Aura, She didn't go wandering around Mac Anu willy-nilly or anything. Few players probably knew that she really existed.

He said the story sounded farfetched. But then again, what was Shugo and Rena's special limited-edition prized avatars? The heroes themselves, proof of the legend.

And no one even remembers their damn names.

What's to say? How about the news, for one? Their comas were broadcasted. Everyone knows.

The avatars Rena and Shugo used weren't the EXACT characters that Kite and BlackRose used, otherwise they wouldn't have the issue of running into a LVL40 monster and getting the crap kicked out of them. They were totally new characters that had the appearance of the two .hackers, thus from the public's view, they could have easily just been random character models that CC Corp created just to give some form to the legend.

Fine, comas are being broadcast and there's speculation that The World could be the cause. CC Corp was still trying to cover it up.

And Umm, its the character data, not the person themselves, thats an Epitaph User...however, seeing as its tied to the personality of the user, it may respond to only one of them...I dunno ^_^;;

Yeah, Kite and BlackRose's character models weren't supposed to be released in LotT. Aura did it.

I do believe it's the personality.

Think about it- The very basis behind Gorre the Machinator was that it was made of 2 beings. Sakubo is in some ways, the same exact way. Saku has also proven to be very cruel, willing to do anything to stop Haseo from butting in with Endrance's business. Cruelty is what Gorre lives for.

Skeith is one of the more ruthless phases, and was willing to chase his target (Aura) across the whole damn game to get her. Haseo was the exact same way with Tri-Edge, Shino, and Ovan.

Innis IS the Mirage of Deceit. He's about lies. And Atoli sure held out on a lot of information about Haseo.

I can't really figure out a way to tie Kuhn to Magus, Yata to Fidchell, or Pai to Tarvos. But I'll think of a way.
