Great information guys. I forgot to say that Gmaesmaster reported the eating of health which Venom needs to carry on his rampages. Really nice additional factor.

SPECIAL EDITION GAME TO BE RELEASED! |
|
Ultimate Spider-Man Gets Limited
Spidey fans take notice: a special edition of USM is on the way. by Jeremy Dunham July 27, 2005 - Activision has revealed that the PlayStation 2 version of its upcoming actioner Ultimate Spider-Man will ship to retailers this September with two different versions -- in standard and limited editions. Naturally, we already knew about the regular game, so we wanted to know what would be so special about the limited version. To find out we went straight to our sources at Activision (and various retailers) and learned some potentially exciting news for webhead fans. As it happens, Ultimate Spider-Man: Limited Edition will (of course) ship in fewer quantities compared to the regular edition of the game (the ratio is currently unknown) and include several special features that you wouldn't be able to enjoy otherwise. At the top of the list is a 22-minute G4-produced documentary known as "The Making of Ultimate Spider-Man," which explores the various ups and downs associated with the game's creation. Also included will be four different character bio trailers spanning two minutes each (Spider-Man and Venom confirmed by Activision, Beetle and Carnage listed in several retail descriptor boxes) along with gameplay tricks from the title's designers. Activision did not reveal Ultimate Spider-Man: Limited Edition's suggested retail price, but if the listings on popular web merchant sites Gamestop and EB Games are anything to go by, it looks to be about ten bucks higher than the standard edition at $59.99 To check out the Limited Edition's distinguishing box art, just glance to your right. We'll be back with more shortly. BRAND NEW INTERVIEW DETALING GAME CHARACTERS!
A few years ago, Marvel Comics decided to launch an all new series of comic books starring their Marvel super hero characters but one which started at "ground zero", giving classic characters new backstories and without a ton of history behind them. This was the Ultimate line and it started with Ultimate Spider-Man. Now this particular version of the character is being used by developer Treyarch and publisher Activision for a new game that's due out for consoles and the PC this fall. Gamecloud got a chance to chat with Treyarch producer Jonathan Zamkoff to find out more about their plans for the Ultimate Spider-Man game. Gamecloud - First, why did Activision want to make their next Spider-Man game based on the Ultimate comic book series? Jonathan Zamkoff - To us, the decision was simple. Ultimate Spider-Man is Marvel's hottest comic book out there right now and Activision/Treyarch have proven time and again that we can make killer Spider-Man games. So, we decided to do what we do best and keep the franchise alive and strong. Gamecloud - How much input did the comic book's writer and artist have in the creation of the game? Jonathan Zamkoff - Both Brian Michael Bendis (writer) and Mark Bagley (artist) were intimately involved in the creation of Ultimate Spider-Man. Bendis wrote the original screenplay and was our co-creative director, while Bagley created the original character design for every character in the game. They were invaluable to the creation, look, and feel of this game. Gamecloud - Ultimate Spider-Man is using a cell-shaded look for its graphics. Why was this picked for the look of the game? Jonathan Zamkoff - Actually we did not cell shade this game, instead we created a look called 3D comic book inking. Our 3D Inking is a unique and very robust technology. It was designed to emulate the look of a modern comic book. It works somewhat like a reflection map on high polygon model. The muscle tone, clothing wrinkles and other detailed elements of the characters are all modeled rather than painted into the texture. This allows the ink lines on the character move and update based on character animation and lighting. Sometimes people will compare it to a cell shader, but there are two distinct differences; we have a variable weighted outline and internal inking. Variable weighted outline really just means our outline flows from think to thin much in the same way a comic book inker inks a drawing. This gives a sense light and weight to the drawings or in our case video game. Internal inking means that we have black ink on the inside of the characters body not just around the outer edge. If you look at a Spider-Man comic book you'll notice on the blue areas of his costume he will have heavy black inking defining his muscles. This is how we're able to make our Ultimate Spider-Man game look like the comic book and not just a Saturday morning cartoon. Gamecloud - What can you tell us about the storyline for Ultimate Spider-Man? Jonathan Zamkoff - It takes place after episode 39 of the comic book and traces the origins of Venom and his connection to Spider-Man. It also throws in a myriad of other Marvel villains and heroes, plot twists and surprise, giving this game the largest Marvel character line-up of any Spider-Man game to date. Gamecloud - Will the game have a free-roaming environment and gameplay like Spider-Man 2 did? Jonathan Zamkoff - Absolutely. The freedom of swinging through New York as Spider-Man is one of the best elements of any Spider-Man game. As we work closely with the SM2 team here at Treyarch we wanted to take the amazing physics and streaming work they did on their game and implore that with our look, feel, and mission design. Gamecloud - What can you tell us about how players will use Spider-Man's powers and abilities for combat? Jonathan Zamkoff - We have revamped combat for Ultimate Spider-Man to be true to the comic's 15 year old Peter Parker. Instead of brawling it out toe-to-toe with bad guys, our Spider-Man is frenetic, incredibly agile, and is constantly in motion during combat. And then of course there is Venom, who simply tries to destroy everything in his path - it is a very gratifying dichotomy of combat feels and styles. Gamecloud - What will the missions be like in the game? Jonathan Zamkoff - We spent a lot of time crafting custom boss fights and AIs. We have a huge line-up of Super Villains and a deep plot. In addition, there is a large variety of open city events that occur at random, token collection, and races. There is a lot of very cool game here! Gamecloud - What enemies and other characters will appear in the Ultimate Spider-Man game? Jonathan Zamkoff - While I can't reveal all of the characters and bosses in the game just yet, we've in various forms already revealed MJ, Rhino, Electro, Nick Fury, Eddie Brock, Peter Parker, Beetle and Alex O'Mirn and these only account for about 1/3 of the characters and bosses you'll encounter in the game. Gamecloud - Will the game have any multiplayer features? Jonathan Zamkoff - No, it will not. It is definitely something we are exploring for future Spider-Man titles though. Gamecloud - What other gameplay elements do you consider to be important? Jonathan Zamkoff - I think the most important gameplay element is the depth with which we explore characters in this game. Subsets of that include the great banter that plays during missions, the style of combat we have given the characters, the plot, the use of motion graphics panels in IGCs, and the overall variety of encounters. Gamecloud - What is the current status of the game's progress and when will it be released? Jonathan Zamkoff - The game is coming along nicely and will be available worldwide this fall. Gamecloud - Finally is there anything else you wish to say about Ultimate Spider-Man? Jonathan Zamkoff - I know I sound like a silly proud parent, but I am extremely excited about this game. We have created a product that will appeal to comic book fans and gamers alike. Ultimate Spider-Man has so many great elements- the look, the writing, the boss fights, the open city, playable Venom, etc. that I can't say what excites me the most. When the game comes out we are going to give the gaming world something to drool over. Credit: http://www.gamecloud.com/article.php?article_id=909 | |

That's a relief that it will be totally free roaming, I'm going to reserve judgement on the graphice until they release some more clips of actual gameplay though, but the news about the number of bosses and characters was great.
