If I wanna start a match, then the game jumps back to the desktop! What can I do?

I have the same problem, and I've traced it to a conflict with WinXP & directX v9.0. The game works fine with XP & DX8.1, ME & Dx8.1 etc.

no, also with DirectX 8.1, my VT don`t work! I had first the 9.0 Version. then i reinstalled the 8.1, but the game jumps always back to the desktop!

[u][/u]Re-installing DX8 won't help unless you totally remove DirectX from your system. The DirectX package works such that it will look for outdated components and updates those that need to be updated. So therefore, "isntalling" 8.1 will basically run the installation, the installer will realize all files are either the same or updated to 9, and won't change a single file.

I have the same problem in that the game crashes out to my desktop right after the camera finishes panning the stadium and/or I press a button on my gamepad to skip the panning bit, but I'm not totally sure if it is because of DX9, (mentioned on some other thread) my AMD cpu, and Windows XP Pro.

I can atest to this because my brother plays this game, without one single hiccup, on his AMD Athlon running Windows XP Pro with DirectX 9.

Same problem here in that the game crashes out to my desktop right after the camera finishes panning the stadium.....i can choose the players, various options.. but wouldn't go any far as it jumps back to the desktop right after a view of the stadium...

i am using winXP and DX 8.1....i checked for the available memory , i have got 16 MB and i have got lots of space on the hard drives... somebody please help...

I got exactly the same problem... Camera pans the field and suddenly crashes (presumably just as its supposed to enter the actual game).

Same thing can occur if waiting too long before pressing start, or watching the intro until they supposedly start the match...

I tried upgrading to the newest nvidia drivers (56.72), which still didn't help...

I really want to play the game, I just don't know if I really want to uninstall direct x 9 and put in direct x 8.1.

Thought I'd throw this out so everyone could benefit...

I got ahold of another set of executables which we're supposed to be "fixed" so one person could play the game without actually owning the original CD... This, oddly enough - seemed to solve the crash problems for me... Played 30 minutes and no problems at all...

Ok - please disregard ALL the crap I just said... Apparently the other exes actually had no effect... I still don't know what the exact cause, but the game occasionally works for me. So far I've been unable to determine the exact reason - but I do know if I play Painkiller, quit it, and run virtua tennis it works... Or at least has so far...

Shoddy programming is what it is...

Ok... I've now uninstalled and deleted Virtua Tennis, never to play it again - but since I eventually got a bit further with the gaming problems I decided to make this final post.

In the end I never could put my finger on when Virtua Tennis (PC Version) decided to work and when not - but one thing's for certain - I NEVER got it to work with the original EXE files...

To recap... Exchanging the original exes with "no-cd" ones, I could occasionally get the game to work. One thing was starting Painkiller prior to starting virtua tennis, that somehow never failed...

More specifically -

1. Start painkiller.
2. End painkiller.
3. Start Virtua Tennis.
4. Play Virtua Tennis.

Sorry folks but you have some problem with your configuration. The game works fine for me in WinXP SP1a, DirectX 9b with GeForce4MX440 (Detonator 45.23WHQL), VIA KT266 mobo (VIA4in1 NOT installed), Onboard VIA AC97 sound (VIA Combo audio driver) and 768MB RAM.

Did you try installing patch 1.1? It is reportedly
"corrects certain problems of a graphic nature" at http://www.jeuxvideo.com/downloads/0000/00004063_patch.htm&e=7629
