"I support" posts |
|
With the recent reopening of this forum to requests, I've been seeing a lot of posts just saying "I support" and I thought I'd pop in and let you know just how helpful they are to determining whether or not a request would have enough potential to be successful as a wiki.
Simply put, they don't help at all and are really just getting in the way. When we evaluate wiki requests, we look for multiple things, such as popularity of the series, solid arguments for or against the creation of a wiki for that series, and background on the series. To prove my point, I'd like to show you the Disgaea request which caught my eye rather quickly. Take a look over tallteen86's and FrozenAtari's posts that gave me enough information to want to play the games myself even though I'd never heard of them before until seeing this thread. That's the type of posts we'd like to see in here. Now let's compare that to the recent Kirby request. Only one person really gives any decent information about the series and it really doesn't help your case any if you're the only person pushing for a wiki to be created for a series, not to mention the fact that it's something that, in its current state, would be easily overlooked by the wiki admin team because of the lack of decent information. ------------------- ![]() Registered Linux User No. 498029

I've seen this before, and I must say: I think me and Dragon pulled a Kirby ._. All we really did was list everything about them, not really adding any information about why you should play them, as you said.

I support this post...
Okay. Now onto the real THING! Can wikis be deleted? I mean, imagine you could accept all the requests..and maybe you thought half of them would end nowhere..You could be able to delete them. It makes it easier and gives opportunity to wikis that at first may sound bad... ![]() -------------------

I believe they can be deleted, but Redemption is strongly against deleting history, which wikis can be easily considered.

Okay...
It's just I think that wiki admins will accept wikis because they like the games, or they know them...and not because of many other reasons.. ![]() -------------------

We'll look more closely at the series in question, is it old or new, see if those wanting to work on it have already started creating some preliminary work like with the Portals, and see what the level of detail of that work is and so on.
Series's that we like wont necessarily be the first on the list of Wiki's made (bar Stargate, which was created specially for me ------------------- ![]()

Actually, after neoseeking "Barbie", there are quite a few profiles, and I used to own one of the games, so I could help do the page for that one. There just needs to be enough interest and work done to warrant a wiki and Avalith's dream will come true.
Are you suggesting something similar to dummy portals, but maybe dummy wikis, Agrias, or just regular wikis? I liked the dummy portals, but unfortunately since wikis are supposed to be sorta community projects, having them at a dummy stage where they aren't very well-known wouldn't help it get much attention. -------------------

I think it needs to be brought up that, you should really be supporting posts only if you can contribute to it in some way. Having 100 people who hate the game say "I support it" just for the hell of it, isn't going to help in any way, and gives us a wrong impression on how many people are willing to work on the wiki.

I'd just like to remind people after seeing a couple of recent "I support". Please only state your support for a wiki if you plan on contributing to it. Just because a series may have a few games to it while you have no intention on contributing to the wiki does not warrant an "I support".

I Support & I Don't Support Posts
I'd like to be clear, we don't want to see who is or who isn't supporting a particular wiki idea. The amount of people not supporting it will generally always out-do those supporting simply because there is no game in the world that has a fan-base of 3billion people +. At times, arguments against a wiki can be helpful, examples are the Programming Wiki, which for obvious reasons wasn't made. However when you add "I don't support" to TV Shows or Games Wiki's it gets quite annoying not only for the people that want it, but for us Wiki Admins as well. Simply put, if you don't support it, then you don't need to tell us. You not posting anything will equally as well tell us that there's no support from you. If you think a wiki isn't a good idea, feel free to express your views, but do not use the fact that Neoseeker is a Games and Hardware site as a reason to reject the ideas. And, please don't start or follow it by "I don't Support". If I keep seeing this from members, then they will be banned for days determined by the number of 'I (/Don't) Support Posts' because it's really making it difficulty for us to see how many people will actually contribute to a wiki. ------------------- ![]()
